Breaking News Correspondent Reuters is looking for an energetic journalist with strong news judgment. The successful candidate will be part of a high-performing team, covering breaking news across a range of topics. Join our team and work as part of the Mexican Breaking News Team, monitoring news on policy, economic data, social trends, and other important headings. About the Role In this opportunity as a Breaking News Correspondent, you will: Monitors incoming news. Makes fast decisions and ensures content is quickly edited and transmitted. Refines and codes content and improves content where appropriate, ensuring correct balance, style, objectivity and reliable sourcing. Liaises with journalists, other desks (including pictures, the Editorial Reference Unit, TV and graphics) and specialist editors and provides feedback as needed. Monitors external media and other sources, identifying gaps in coverage and feeds into the news editing process. May create content. May engage clients (through blogs, online chatrooms etc). Alerts bureaux on beats picked up by competitors. Revises and packages content per product requirements (e.g. Top News, glances, wraps, photo montages, online communities, reuters.com, agency). For local language services adapts, translates and codes international service stories per local client requirements. May directly inject to a local language service. Originates and edits graphics to illustrate text stories. About You You’re a fit for the role if your background includes: Bachelor's Degree Fluent English is a must. +5 years of experience doing the same activities. Have strong news judgment. Be able to filter quickly through complex information to identify and explain key news elements. Be a fast learner and strong team player. Have experience working in real-time news. This is a full-time, that requires flexibility. You must be willing to work as part of a global 24/7 rotating shift system, including weekends and public holidays, with occasional night shifts.
