As a software engineer for the Android platform of Reuters News app, you will be responsible for technical design, definition, implementation, testing, deployment, and optimizations. As an experienced engineer, you will influence how we build features and products as well as the best practices and patterns we use for development and automated testing. With your peers, you’ll manage product implementation across the Android ecosystem. About the Role In this opportunity as Senior Mobile Software Engineer, you will: Write new features for the existing mobile software. Modernize the front-end stack with headless CMS integration and other back-end services Promote code re-usability across both iOS and Android platforms leveraging communication and technical frameworks Create and execute unit and integration tests ensuring the software meets quality assurance requirements Coordinate application design plans with product managers, brainstorm, design the prototype application or use other iterative methods to validate concepts and inform product at decision-making Develop the software using disciplined software development processes, adhering to the organization standards, software best practice guidelines, and corporate policies Participates in remediations for production issues escalations arising from operations Participates in project planning sessions with team members to analyze development requirements; provide implementation suggestions, options, articulate dependencies and risks to product managers, and estimate software development tasks Provides timely status updates for areas of individual responsibilities to supervisor Reviews work of both full-time employees and contractual developers About You You’re a fit for the role of Senior Mobile Software Engineer if your background includes: Degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, or related field of study 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience Demonstrable portfolio of released applications on Google app stores Working knowledge of software development methodologies like Agile, Scrum, Kanban Strong Computer Science fundamentals including data structures and algorithms Expert knowledge in Object-Oriented Programming Expert knowledge of Java, JDK and Android Developers Kit. Expert knowledge of Android Architecture, performance optimization, and Security Advanced Android UI Skills: Fragments, Custom view components Comfortable with Android Studio and Gradle build system. Experience using standard concepts and technologies such as Asynchronous Programming (Rx or Coroutines), Dagger2, OkHttp3, Retrofit Solid understanding of various architecture patterns such as MVVM, MVP Strong understanding of Google’s Android design principles, interface guidelines, and best practices Preferred Qualifications and Experience: 3+ years of experience developing enterprise mobile applications Comprehensive knowledge of cross-platform mobile development tools, including Kotlin MM, Flutter, NativeScript, React Native Knowledge of software engineering & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding patterns, styles, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, monitoring Practical knowledge or hands-on experience with Kotlin Multiplatform Extensive knowledge of APIs including RESTful and GraphQL Knowledge of CMS: its workflow and headless integrations with Front-end Knowledge of Design Systems, UX and UI Knowledge of typical app monetization strategies and their implementations: e.g. In-app advertising or digital subscriptions In-depth knowledge of application performance benchmarking, optimization, and monitoring Experience with working or creating a streamlined mobile software workflow using CI/CD tools What’s in it For You?
