    Position summary

    Reuters Pictures is looking for a dynamic and talented Visuals Journalist with core skills in news photography to join our team in Kolkata, India to report from one of Asia’s most important countries. We are looking for a photographer who is a team player and a self-starter with plenty of initiative to cover news and sports, and good understanding of the region’s politics. The successful candidate will be based in Kolkata. The pictures and video news industry is going through a period of significant change, driven by the rapidly changing habits of news consumers and ever-changing technology. The successful candidate should have a working knowledge of, and extensive experience, in news photography. They should also have at least basic knowledge of video shooting, as well as a desire and capacity to learn more. We want someone who has excellent communication skills, an unflappable temperament, and a passion for visual journalism. She/he must be able to work closely in a team with other visuals colleagues and reporters. Fluent English is necessary to allow the successful candidate to work independently. A commitment to preserving the Thomson Reuters Trust Principles of independence, integrity and freedom from bias is essential. Role responsibilities -- React fast to breaking news, willingness to travel on assignments, sometimes at short notice -- Participate in assignments with multimedia teams -- Pitch and develop story ideas on a wide range of subjects -- Ensure safety newsgathering protocols are followed Qualifications/Required skills -- Sharp eye for visual elements that are needed to make good pictures and video stories -- Basic pictures editing skills -- Thorough understanding of the latest digital visual technologies for photographing, filming, editing, transmitting, and sharing -- Self-starter with the ability to identify stories that will be of interest to international media -- Proven storytelling skills, and a desire to work with the Wider Image team on long-term, in-depth stories Preferred -- Experience working in hostile environments -- Experience working with multimedia elements -- Ability to speak Bengali Interested applicants must submit a Cover letter, CV and a link to their website/ a portfolio.
