TikTok's Consumption Experience team is responsible for providing the best among the industry experience for users to consume video content. This includes low-latency and fluent video playback, efficient encoding and decoding, high quality videos and more. You will be responsible for the video playback performance and reliability on Android devices. This is an exciting opportunity for those excited and skilled in collecting and leveraging data at a global scale (i.e. many regions, networks, devices, and people) to identify areas of improvement in our product. We are looking for motivated and passionate individuals interested in complex engineering challenges around one of the most important aspects of TikTok. As an Android Engineer for the Consumption Experience team, you will: - Optimize and improve video playback performance and reliability on Android. - Debug and diagnose quality of end-to-end video experience. Work with cross functional teams to land optimization solutions. - Define the video optimization roadmap for both low-end and high-end network and devices - Promote robust and maintainable code, clear documentation and scalable architecture. Qualifications: - BS/MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent majors/experience. - Experience in native Android development. - Proficiency in Java and/or Kotlin. - Strong understanding of software development principles, capabilities, and limitations of the android platform. - Ability to understand and debug large and complex code bases. - Good team communication and collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications: - Deep understanding of android framework. - Experience with performance and reliability on mobile platforms, video player related is a plus. - Strong data analysis skills, able to identify product opportunities from technical metrics analysis. - Experience with video codec standards like H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, VP8/VP9.
