U.S. Data Security (“USDS”) is a standalone department of TikTok in the U.S. This new security-first division was created to bring heightened focus and governance to our data protection policies and content assurance protocols to keep U.S. users safe. Our focus is on providing oversight and protection of the TikTok platform and user data in the U.S., so millions of Americans can continue turning to TikTok to learn something new, earn a living, express themselves creatively, or be entertained. About the Role
This role will sit within the USDS Product policy Team and focus on account, device and recidivist policy. You will need to cultivate a deep understanding of the platform and how it can be abused by actors to circumvent our policies and return on platform. This will require developing systems for tracking and anticipating user behavior and identifying thoughtful and creative policy solutions in a fast moving environment. You will work closely with a variety of internal partners including North America Regional Policy Experts, Global Feature Product policy Specialists, USDS Threat Discovery and Prevention, USDS Product, USDS Data Science and USDS Legal Policy Operations to ensure that TikTok is able to detect, triage, and prevent safety incidents. This position will be full-time, based at one of our offices in Los Angeles, Mountain View, Seattle, New York City or Washington, D.C..
Responsibilities:
- Rely on data-driven assessments of account, device and recisivist behavior content to develop, launch, and train policies that are customized for our product offerings
- Perform industry analysis and open source research for best practices and guidelines for combating recidivism
- Gain an in-depth understanding of recidivist user behavior specific to different policy issue areas
- Partner with our Threat Discovery and Prevention team to synthesize network, account and device level insights into operational policies
- Advise internal and external stakeholders on the nuances around circumvention and recidivism
- Work closely with cross-functional partners and external experts to stay up-to-date on emerging social media trends and slang in the US to predict and prevent violations of TikTok's community guidelines
- Analyze existing policies, product designs and procedures by identifying gaps, inconsistencies, or conflicts
- Work cross-functionally with global policy and operations teams to set goals and milestones related to product policy
- Assist team lead in providing comprehensive and ongoing training designed to inform the moderators about policy, procedures changes, recent trends, and updates
- 3+ years of work experience in Trust & Safety, content policy, or brand safety roles or another relevant field with an emphasis on product features and how they can be exploited
- Experience with trust and safety models, scalable policy recall solutions, technical acumen, and actionable policies that reduce issues stemming from policy complexity
- Demonstrated systematic thought process regarding policy and thorough operational experience
- Background in operational excellence with a proven ability to structure policy and process-oriented milestones
- Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments, identify trade-offs, and make decisions in high-pressure situations
- Deep knowledge in how policy develops in new media, technology, entertainment, or related fields
- Strong attention to detail -- highly self-driven and results oriented
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and understanding of data access tools
- Intermediate proficiency in SQL
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working with international partners in different time zones
- Proven ability to develop sound research methodologies and collect, synthesize, analyze, and interpret data
- Experience managing complex research projects
- Experience working in a start-up, or forming new teams in established companies

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $87400 - $196544 annually.Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location.
