Team Insight:
The Data Systems Infrastructure (DSI) team sits within the ByteDance global technology structure and supports the company's fast growth by building and operating hyper-scale datacenters, managing the life cycle of server fleet, providing cloud solutions, and developing various infrastructure services, making sure they are scalable and are reliable.
Role Insight:
The DSI team is growing across UK and Ireland and we are looking to hire a Datacenter Operations Engineer to join the DSI Team. We are looking for candidates with strong technical infrastructure backgrounds with a passion for engineering excellence, providing cost-effective solutions with an eye to the future. You will understand the challenges associated with deploying infrastructure at scale and have experience in designing systems and platforms that set the global standard for performance, availability, security, and cost. The work you do will influence processes across the ByteDance business globally.
We are looking for an experienced Operations Engineer where you will be able to apply your technical skills in a fast-paced environment. You will have a strong knowledge of server hardware and mechanical/electrical infrastructure at a large-scale datacenter, which is critical to this role. You will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving server issues, escalating issues and working collaboratively with remote teams. Additionally, you will work within the server rack lifecycle process and focus on helping buildout computing and storage environments. You will also need to have working knowledge and experience in at least one of the following core areas: Networking, Scripting, and Hardware Repair.
Solid communication skills, the ability to work independently and also within teams are a critical requirements for this role. You will need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where adaptability and flexibility will be key to perform well.
Responsibilities:
- Work within a ticketing system in support for server fleet.
- Be the first point of contact for break fix technicians.
- Prioritize ticketing queues and work to resolve escalations.
- Perform power cycles, troubleshooting, and replace failed components.
- Physically assist in moving and installing equipment.
- Assist in projects such as adding new capacity and working on retrofits within the Datacenter
-Assist with inventory and asset management.
Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Establish strong working relationships with various internal teams and external
Minimum Qualifications:
- College/Technician Degree or equivalent professional experience/certification in
Engineering.
- Knowledge of Linux and server hardware repairs.
- Working knowledge of technologies such as HTTP, DNS, RAID, and DHCP.
- At least three years of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in large scale datacenters.
- Basic working knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical infrastructure.
- Experience operating heavy-load movement equipment such as pallet jacks, server
lifts, etc.
