Who we’re looking for

Connected Technologies is a newly formed group within Toyota, focused on delivering industry-leading user experiences and new technologies for our Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

We’re looking for a passionate and highly motivated Consultant/Lead Software Systems Engineer for our backend engineering teams. In this role you will be responsible for building cloud engineering solutions to develop state-of-the-art applications, paying attention to details to exceed customer experience expectations! You will provide technical leadership to build high-quality performant solutions conforming to Toyota's quality and security standards. This role will be working cross functionally with the engineering & product organizations, and contributing to our technical roadmap, architectural design, and uplift wherever necessary. You will be asked to document work and engage in quality testing/validation for changes and improving features before releasing to the customer. Lastly, you will have the opportunity to coach other software engineers to create high performant software and to continuously improve our existing codebase.

What you’ll be doing:

• Gather requirements, design, document, and collaborate with other engineering teams to manage all the dependencies.
• Design, implement, and maintain technical solutions and backend cloud services of the engineering squad.
• Design re-usable frameworks/components to help the needs of teams spanning across the globe.
• Drive new initiatives in a fast-paced environment based on emerging industry trends.
• Participate in troubleshooting issues, debug functionality, and continuously improve codebase.
• Collaborate with engineers, managers, product managers and senior leadership to turn our vision into a tangible roadmap every quarter.
• Communicate well with team members & external partners, and work collaboratively.
• Identify and encourage adoption of new technologies, tools, processes for the organization as needed.
• Be a thoughtful technical voice and support your team in making diligent architectural and operational decisions.
• Understanding of what high quality code and software engineering systems look like; and know how to foster an environment that creates them.

What you bring:

• Proven software engineering experience; Master’s in Engineering, Computer Science or other technical related field preferred.
• Proven experience as a technical lead in software engineering. Provide technical leadership and guidance to both your team members and your project peers.
• Demonstrated experience building or running production-grade observability or constraint systems.
• Demonstrated success influencing senior level stakeholders on strategic direction based on recommendations backed by in-depth analysis.

This position is based in Plano, TX. Toyota encourages all employees to live within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned work location. Hybrid work from outside the assigned work location may be permitted in a pre- approved list of states with certain stipulations.
