    TRD is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Engine Test Engineer.

    This position is located in Costa Mesa, CA and is available hybrid remote work.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Oversees test equipment technical operations including calibration, controls operation, technical improvements.
    • Responsible for the correct operation of different types of conditioning systems (oil, water, air, fuel).
    • Design and engineer dynamometer tests and parameters so that every activity can be carrried out by dyno operator in the most efficient way. 
    • Design various types of tests such as fired and non-fired engine testing, sub-component testing and non-fired engine build tests. Examples include but are not limited to:
      • AVL Puma software suite programming to create custom test profiles.
      • AVL Concerto software suite programming to create custom data vizualiation scripts and screens.
    • Ensure that test data is reliable, accurate, and repeatable.
    • Provide reports to the measurement and engineering teams detailing test cell performance.
    • Create new and maintain existing calibration procedures including pass fail criteria.
    • Collaborate with Development team on testing needs.
    • Work one on one with development engineers to reach common objectives.
    • Create technical documentation to communicate highly technical concepts and present rational arguments.
    • Maintain and improve component test rigs based on Labview SW and NI Hardware.        
    • Work directly with external suppliers such as AVL, HBM, Kistler, Bibby in the following areas:
      • Generate technical specifications to facilitate RFQs.
      • Supplier liason to ensure the delivered product or service meets the agreed specification.
      • Follow up on failure analysis.
      • Maintain industry network and up to date knowledge of applicable technology.

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s Engineering Degree with Mechanical or Automotive emphasis is preferred or relative work experience.
    • 5-10 years relevant experience in engine and sub system testing in a high pressure, dynamic environment.
    • Knowledge about controls systems and data analysis tools.
    • Manufacturing knowledge of mfg. Techniques, machinery, and industrial methods.
    • Mechanics; hands on knowledge and understanding of mechanical vibration resonances and modal analysis.
    • Procurement; product and vendor knowledge, understanding of typical technical specs used in the engine testing business.
    • Troubleshooting; diagnostic skills for machines, electronics, and test instruments.
    • Highly motivated, with a strong interest in engines or motorsports.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Effective organizational and accurate documentation skills.

    Computer Skills

    • Proficient with using computer software as it relates to industrial and instrument automation.
    • Proficient with the usual MS Office suite of applications especially Access & Excel.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to work around loud noises from engines, fans, motors, compressors and pumps.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 25-kilogram instruments.
    • Ability to climb a ladder to access roof-top or attic equipment.
    • Ability to work with exposure to fuels and chemicals.

    Preferred Experience:

    • Direct experience operating and troubleshooting engine/engine subsystem measurement, calibration, instrumentation, fluid/air conditioning & control systems.
    • Knowledge and general understanding of PUMA and AVL suite of operating software and hardware as they relate to the engine and sub system testing.
    • Direct experience specifying, operating, and troubleshooting high accuracy pressure, torque, flow and temperature sensors.
    • Proficient in Engineering computer software, such as Labview, Matlab, Dewesoft, Creo etc.
    • Experience programming, setting up & troubleshooting test instrumentation and control software for unique tests/equipment.
    • Computer Hardware; experience with industrial computers and control systems.
    • Experience with 3D modeling and industrial system design.

    The expected base pay range for this position is $91,280 - $148,330 per year.
