    Position summary

    ) locations to meet or exceed hazmat regulatory requirements. This role will engage with regulatory agencies and collaborate with business leaders to bring awareness and compliance guidance to complex issues.

    Reporting to the Hazmat Compliance Manager the person in this role will support the Hazmat Compliance Teamobjective to develop and implement hazmat policies, programs, and training, ensuring Toyota's regulatory compliance and risk mitigation to avoid business interruptions.

    What You'll Be Doing

    • Determine the applicability of state, federal, and international regulations (IMO, ICAO, UN, DOT, NOM, TDG), TMC requirements, and industry best practice to standardize compliant hazardous materials transportation policies

    • Translate complex regulatory interpretations into actionable instructions for operational processes

    • Monitor rapidly changing hazardous material regulations and adapt Toyota policies in the shifting regulatory landscape

    • Provide regulatory guidance that supports lithium battery engineering and design, battery manufacturing, and battery packaging divisions within both TMNA and TMC in the rapidly evolving area of lithium battery technologies

    • Use SME knowledge and experience to develop tools, programs audits, and systems to standardize compliance functions, identify organizational risk and provide stability with hazmat shipping processes

    • Develop & implement policies, programs, and procedures for the management of hazardous materials throughout Toyota Motor North America, including affiliates within the USA, Canada & Mexico

    • Engage with emerging regulations and legislation through the development of regulatory interpretation, guidance, and application to all areas of international hazardous material transport

    • Develop & implement training resources, content, eLearnings, and reporting capabilities to drive appropriate deployment of compliance training throughout Toyota Motor North America, including affiliates within the USA, Canada & Mexico. Provide targeted regulatory risk identification, quantification, and mitigation advice as required

    • Support North American and international Toyota business units in hazardous materials, transportation, and Chemical regulations.

    • Collaborate with the packaging teams to ensure all packaging meets regulatory requirements prior to part movement in the supply chain

    • Support the Chemical Management Office (CMO) to ensure part EDS/SDS is collected to confirm compliance prior to part movement in the supply chain

    • Support Toyota leadership with communications to government agencies (State, Federal and International) on compliance matters (i.e., special permits, compliance investigations, etc.). Represent Toyota to industry automotive, hazmat trade groups

    What You Bring

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

    • Direct experience in Hazmat compliance

    • SME knowledge of local, state, federal, and international Dangerous Goods Transportation regulations

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences

    • Ability to travel 50%

    Added Bonus If You Have

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field

    • Experience with TMNA R&D, Manufacturing, and Service Parts operations

    • Leadership of cross-disciplinary teams

    • Master's degree in a related field

    • Professional certifications, such as Certified Dangerous Goods Professional (CDGP), Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or similar

    • Proficiency in Power platform components (i.e., Power Bi, Power Apps, Power Automate)

    • TBP Panel Certified

    • Proficiency in JKK development and application

    • Experience in interfacing with regulatory agencies

    • Dangerous Goods training certification (49CFR, IATA, IMDG)
