    Who we’re looking for

    Toyota’s InfoTech Labs Division is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Principal Researcher- Edge Computing.

    The primary responsibility of this role is to lead research on next-generation edge computing technologies for intelligent connected systems to realize the research outcomes by incorporating the latest technology of machine learning, sensor fusion, simulation, network communication, edge computing, and cloud computing; also to create proposals for future intelligent connected systems.

    Reporting to the Director of Intelligent Connected Systems, the person in this role will support the Intelligent Connected Systems (ICS) department's objective to develop and demonstrate the key technologies for future mobility services/platform.

    What you’ll be doing

    • Lead research and development of next-generation edge computing technologies with POC (proof of concept) prototypes to demonstrate the advantages of the research outcome.

    • Define research goals & technology roadmap for edge AI, extended reality, and crowdsourced live map

    • Contribute to Automotive Edge Computing Consortium (AECC)

    • Conduct simulations and proof-of-concept demonstrations

    • Set direction for one or more edge computing research projects

    • Direct research of corporate partners, consultants, and co-ops

    • Direct external collaborations with universities and industry partners

    • Facilitate ICS interaction with other groups

    • Prepare and present project reports to executives

    • 0-5 hours of overtime a week

    • Travel 10%

    What you bring

    • PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a closely related field

    • Relevant work experience (including graduate school, co-ops/internships)

    • Strong expertise in edge computing technologies, such as federated learning, reinforcement learning, distributed computing, and resource management

    • Track record of patents and high-quality publications

    • Experience briefing executives and TMC customers (or equivalent)

    • Experience in simulations for transportation (e.g., Matlab, SUMO, Unity3D, AIMSUN)

    • Proven experience with AECC workgroups

    What you may bring

    • Experience of development of proof-of-concept prototypes of research projects

    • Excellent communication and presentation skills to explain complex technical problems to non-technical audience

    • Open mindset to explore novel ideas through inter-disciplinary discussions

    • Excellent analytical ability and problem-solving skills

    The expected base pay range for this position is $146,320.00 - $237,770.00 per year.
