    Who we’re looking for

    Toyota’s Service Parts and Accessory Development (SPAD) department is looking for a highly motivated and qualified Senior Product Development Engineer - Electrical.

    This position is primarily responsible for the technical portion of electrical accessory development and coordination with other divisions of Toyota and suppliers to meet necessary quality, performance, and departmental objectives.

    Reporting to the Product Development Manager, the person in this role will support the Service Part and Accessory Development. Potential product responsibility may include exterior and interior illumination, telematics and connected services, wireless products, wire harness, and other modular electrical accessories.

    What you’ll be doing

    • Work on a team to plan, develop, implement, approve, control, and follow parts through the development life cycle.
    • Review and approve CAD data, drawings, etc. and conduct design reviews before tooling kick-off.
    • Create, study and issue wiring specifications.
    • Establish evaluation and quality assurance requirements for developed accessories through close coordination with TMC and other key Toyota divisions. Develop testing criteria for new products. Identify, develop and communicate product specifications to suppliers.
    • Perform evaluations by bench and vehicle, ensuring performance, function, product durability, and safety.
    • Analyze and evaluate accessory products to ensure quality standards and customer needs are met. Perform product evaluations (Fit and Function, etc.) and design reviews on all new products during prototype and pre-production development phases.
    • Utilize soft skills to communicate and negotiate effectively. Coordinate expectations of internal stakeholders and build consensus. Also expected to work closely with the supply base to achieve objectives.
    • Document and continuously improve processes and procedures for the functional area.
    • Use advanced technical knowledge to predict and prevent issues as well as analyze, develop and implement countermeasures for ongoing issues. Implement lessons learned into current and future design and design guidelines.

    What you bring

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or other technical related disciplines, or equivalent experience.
    • Experience in electrical parts development with an understanding of both design and manufacturing principles for electrical parts.
    • Computer-Aided Design experience and knowledge to apply tolerance stack up using GD T or traditional tolerance practices.
    • Excellent communication (written and verbal), problem-solving, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    • Experience presenting to senior leadership.
    • Proficiency with PC software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.).
    • General knowledge and experience with general mechanical design principals, stress analysis, and manufacturing principles.
    • Hands-on automotive experience, including the ability to disassemble vehicle components in order to install and evaluate accessory products and develop training aids and installation tools.
    • Overseas and travel within North America is required, up to 25%.
    • This position requires driving. A motor vehicle record that’s acceptable by company standards is required for this position.

    Added bonus if you have

    • Experience in an automotive product development environment with electrical applications.
    • Product testing procedures: familiarity with ASTM, SAE, FMVSS, and working knowledge of product development processes and procedures.
    • Experience in telematics/connected services.
