Position summary

We’re looking for an exceptional attorney to support several of Uber’s biggest growth delivery businesses, from Grocery, Retail and Alcohol, to other New Verticals and Direct (white label) delivery. The Delivery Legal team tackles novel product development challenges, offering strategic counsel to Product, Engineering and Operations teams as new features, entire lines of business, and critical partner integrations are introduced on the Uber platform, in addition to driving commercial negotiations that unlock a wide variety of Delivery partnerships.

This unique role offers an opportunity to shape Uber’s efforts to affordably, reliably, and safely deliver all of life’s necessary and exciting items – if you’re passionate about transforming local commerce, come and join this bold team.

This position can be based in any of our regional hubs - New York, NY, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, CA, Chicago, IL, Seattle, WA, or Dallas, TX.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as a front-line attorney advising Uber’s dynamic product managers, engineers, deal makers, designers, analysts, and operations specialists who develop, launch, and constantly improve the technology that powers the Uber Delivery platform.
  • Negotiate commercial agreements that form the partnerships and frameworks vital to delivering innovative delivering products.
  • Draft master framework, master services, promotional, and licensing agreements, terms and conditions, FAQs, legal disclaimers, and other policies governing the use of Uber products and services, all with a full-view integration of risk and legal controls.
  • Be an active and trusted business partner, providing timely, actionable advice to the Delivery business.
  • Understand, interpret and apply current laws and regulations to Uber’s business models, resolving a wide-range of issues, including consumer protection, privacy, data security, transactional and commercial law, litigation risk, intellectual property, licensing, and antitrust.
  • Provide critical and proactive legal and strategic feedback on a wide range of sophisticated issues. It's our job to peer around corners for the business and ensure that we are well-positioned for the future.
  • Build policies and practices to ensure consistent implementation of legal guidance.
  • Be a strong communicator and collaborator to effectively support a high-performing, diverse team and outside counsel to achieve our legal and regulatory priorities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years legal experience
  • Private practice, government, and/or in-house experience.
  • J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state.
  • Experience with reviewing, drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6+ years of legal experience
  • Strong team orientation, with confidence and flexibility to perform in forward-thinking, constantly evolving and growing environments.
  • Collaborative approach with both business and legal groups, with strong ability to establish relationships, gain credibility, and partner with team members.
  • Experience comparing and contrasting regulations in multiple global markets.
  • Outstanding analytical and legal skills, mature judgment, and innovative thinking.
  • Ability to translate sophisticated legal issues and ambiguity into clear and advice, to communicate optimally with colleagues, and to collaborate with a broad range of senior business managers, executives and other colleagues and professionals across our company.
  • History of driving efficient and strategic use of resources, including technical groups, in-house counsel, vendors, and external counsel.
  • Passionate about your work and a desire to have a big impact.
  • Embody the highest standards of integrity, ethics and accountability.
  • Passion about Uber and our mission!
