SECURITY ENGINEER II

The Security Engineer II will be responsible for setting up and maintaining a system or specific components of a system (e.g. for example, installing, configuring, and updating hardware and software; establishing and managing user accounts; overseeing or conducting backup and recovery tasks; implementing operational and technical security controls; and adhering to organizational security policies and procedures).

Primary/Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:

• Build, install, configure, and test dedicated cyber defense hardware and software solutions.
• Manage system/server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
• Monitor and maintain system/server configuration.
• Ensure all systems security operations and maintenance activities are properly documented and updated as necessary.
• Maintain baseline system security according to organizational policies.
• Manage accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment.

Required Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to monitor measures or indicators of system performance and availability.
• Ability to script or code OS/application-level automation tasks.
• Ability to perform basic data/log parsing
• Ability to work with open-source orchestration software (Kubernetes) for deploying, managing, and scaling container-based applications at a basic level.
• Skill in assessing security systems designs.
• Skill in conducting system/server planning, management, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity and privacy principles.
• Knowledge of network design processes, to include understanding of security objectives, operational objectives, and trade-offs.
• Knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, Dynamic Host Configuration, Domain Name System (DNS), and directory services.
• Knowledge of network security architecture concepts including topology, protocols, components, and principles (e.g., application of defense-in-depth).
• Knowledge of network traffic analysis methods.
• Knowledge of operating systems.
• Knowledge of security system design tools, methods, and techniques.
• Knowledge of system administration, network, and operating system hardening techniques.

Experience, Education, Certification, License and Training

• Minimum one (3) years of experience in a security administrative role
• Minimum one (3) years of experience in incident response and handling
• Minimum one (3) years of experience in intrusion detection/prevention tools and applications
• Minimum one (3) years of experience in host/network access control mechanisms

Preferred Qualifications:

• A Security Engineer II has a broad working knowledge of subject matter and is generally recognized. They will accomplish tasks in areas of expertise largely independently. They will proactively seek others to collaborate on innovative applications of technical proficiency. At least one repeatable demonstration of achievement across all areas of Ultimate Software Core Competencies.
• This position requires a wide range of Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) to be successful in this role. The preferred candidate for this role will have demonstrable capabilities in as many areas from the KSAs as possible.
