    General Summary:

    General Summary

    Colonial Life is poised to drive significant growth. We are looking for a Marketing leader to drive the development and execution of marketing plans and help the 1099 agent community deliver on our growth strategy. You will draw upon a thorough understanding of the market, 1099 dynamics, customers, and an “outside-in” perspective to create a robust marketing strategy, take it into implementation, ensure agent adoption and measure impact.

    Your goal is to increase awareness and demand for Colonial Life offerings and capabilities and to equip sales agents with innovative tools and stories throughout the customer journey. You are also responsible for Colonial Life’s brand story and value proposition.

    You will be accountable for the Marketing strategy and all Marketing deliverables for Colonial Life. In addition to reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, you are part of the Colonial Life senior leadership team.

    Principal Duties

    • Drive a marketing and brand strategy that addresses business needs and delivers profitable growth.
    • Develop and implement multi-touch, digital-first, demand creation programs that produce stories and solutions throughout the purchase journey, paving the way for sales agents to be more productive and have a more efficient conversation with prospective or current customers. 
    • Increase brand awareness, engagement, consideration and retention with employers and brokers.
    • Leverage research, analytics, and external market perspectives to identify target markets, determine strategic positioning and inform creation of marketing plans.
    • Lead internal Delivery team and external agencies to build and launch powerful integrated campaigns across channels.
    • Drive results and maximize impact; track and quantify outcomes.
    • Partner with head of sales and segment leaders to ensure specific, prioritized deliverables are incorporated into business unit planning.
    • Advocate for Marketing across the organization ensuring the marketing strategy influences the business plan and vice versa.
    • Recruit, develop and retain talented and motivated team, promote clear and direct performance management and ensure appropriate succession for all key roles.

    Job Specifications

    • 10-15 years experience in Marketing ideally at a company distributing through a large and independent Field force
    • Bachelors required, MBA degree or equivalent experience preferred
    • Very strong leadership skills with a track record for attracting, retaining, and developing exceptional talent
    • Exceptional marketing and communication skills with ability to create a vision, drive implementation, seek input and promote followership
    • Must have strong understanding of business-to-business marketing and of Products/Services distributed through intermediaries, like brokers.
    • A high degree of business acumen is required with a track record of producing strong results and making effective decisions
    • Strong negotiating, influencing, facilitation, partnership, and interpersonal skills
    • Travels 20 to 30% of the time

    The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

    $140,300.00-$252,900.00

    Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.  All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
