Summary:

The Wabtec IT Application Excellence team’s mission is to create long term, sustainable value for Wabtec through collaborative business partnership, creative solutioning, strong execution, and stable operations of our application platforms & products.   

The Director IT of Transit Solutions is responsible for partnering with Wabtec’s Transit Business Unit to develop an IT application roadmap and drive execution on initiatives that unlock value for the business in alignment with the One Wabtec application excellence strategy.  This position will represent IT and interface directly with the Senior Transit Leadership Team, build an IT team that can scale to support transit, and facilitate execution of IT programs across multiple IT teams.  This position will report to the Corporate Vice President of IT Applications and will directly support multiple senior business leaders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategy Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with Transit Leadership Team and site leaders:

    • Provide business relationship management support.  Represent IT and manage escalations and demands from across the Transit business.
    • Build strategic roadmap for adoption of IT Pillars and development of differentiating solutions that provide clear benefit over time
    • Define & lead programs to execute on highest priorities and achieve business outcomes
  • Manage the IT budget for Transit specific initiatives and govern overall spend for Transit programs across various IT teams.

  • Collaborate with IT product owners to provide input to roadmaps relevant to the Transit business specifically. 

  • Partner with IT product and platform teams to develop and execute projects that drive sustainable value and rationalizes the Transit application landscape.

  • Oversee execution of projects that mitigate risk and provide clear business benefit for Transit.

Team Management & Oversight Responsibilities

  • Lead Transit specific application teams responsible for local applications & initiatives
  • Ensure all teams are built with the right skillset & culture to meet the organization’s current and future needs. 
  • Manage resource allocation across teams to maximize business impact of resources and ensure each team has the skills and capabilities needed to achieve its objectives.
  • Manage IT talent, playing a key role in performance management and compensation processes, role and competency definition, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Partner with Human Resources to create learning and development opportunities aligned to the organization’s skill and capability needs, and to provide rewarding career paths for staff.
  • Recruit and hire talent to address new needs and skill gaps.
  • Facilitate collaboration and partnership across teams and stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture consistent with IT and application team culture that supports learning, collaboration, transparency, and inclusiveness.
  • Manage employee engagement and promote a compelling employee value proposition to retain staff.
  • Work with the IT Security team to ensure all IT solutions & services are effectively secured and that risks are mitigated.

Minimum Qualifications_:_ (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • Degree in business administration or a technology-related field required
  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years of experience in IT field related to program management, technical product management, engineering, or architecture.
  • Knowledge of business processes (engineering, manufacturing, operations, services)
  • Experience leading IT projects and knowledge of IT Program Management processes
  • Experience and knowledge of various IT processes
  • Experience leading small to medium sized teams of IT professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and high level of personal integrity
  • Innovative thinking and leadership with an ability to lead and motivate cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams
  • Experience with contract and vendor negotiations and management including managed services
  • Able and willing to travel, occasionally internationally, up to 20%

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced college degree in related technology field (Computer, Engineering, Science, etc.)
  • Approximately 6+ years of experience in related IT roles
  • Able to exhibit a progression of increasingly complex job responsibilities
  • Strategic and creative thinking to analyze issues that may arise and create solutions
  • Ability to Influence and collaborate with cross functional set of stakeholders
  • Ability to respond positively to feedback and implement change in process and procedures as needed
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment. During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions.  Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
