The position of Director of Project Engineering & System Integration is responsible for the overall technical success of all ongoing programs, leadership and management of the organization and adherence to standard development processes used for various projects and programs.

The candidate shall have experience in, and be capable of leading a team in specifying, architecting, managing L0 and L1 requirements, designing, testing, integrating and commissioning train control, signaling, communications,  and misc. rail control systems. The Project Engineering and System Integration team has overall technical responsibility for delivering a system compliant with customer requirements. This includes direct contribution to the system design and management of requirements allocated to other development teams. Work product of the Project Engineering team includes creation of specifications, design documents, block diagrams, context diagrams, use cases, and test cases with a strong focus of the V Life Cycle of System Design concepts. The Project Engineering and System Integration team is also responsible for integrating system components, troubleshooting and problem solving, monitoring system performance throughout commissioning, and providing periodic reports on issues and performance.

Requirements

Management / Leadership

  • Experience in rail systems required, with preference for PTC systems that span signal, communications, back office, and onboard.
  • Must be comfortable interacting with multiple geographically distributed personnel. Must be a self-starter, hands-on individual; must be able to do the work themselves and not just direct others.  Must be comfortable partnering with other Wabtec Business Units, Subcontractors and other business partners, to direct them and engage with them, in the delivery of the an overall system.
  • Understand Industry standards (Such as AREMA, IEEE, CENELEC, INCOSE), requirements and trends. Understand customer standards.
  • Drive technical execution for the project

Technical Expertise / Leadership

  • Experience in architecting, specifying, designing, testing, integrating, and commissioning diverse rail systems.
  • Experience across all phases of a project “V” lifecycle preferred.
  • Experience in ATO, ATP, ATS preferred.
  • Experience in CBTC systems and PTC systems preferred. Alternately experience with track based train control solutions such as ATC/ATP and ETCS  solutions is acceptable.   
  • Broad knowledge across RAM and Safety preferred.
  • Experience understanding system requirements and interfaces, defining system architecture, and working with customers to create, clarify, and review requirements.
  • Lead or support other CBTC/PTC Segment Engineers with the design and integration of CBTC/PTC components to form a complete CBTC/PTC system. This involves knowing how each of the segment’s work and being able to address the detailed interfaces.
  • Experience with Development of:
    • System Engineering Plans, System Implementation Plans, Project Management Plans, System Test Plans, Configuration Management Plans, PDR, CDR, FDR, etc.
  • Support of test organization to document formal test cases to demonstrate system compliance.
  • Support of test organization to define test lab configuration, evaluate test configurations, assist with lab testing, and coordinate fixes with the responsible development team.
  • Assist/lead project pursuits (RFP and Proposal efforts) by championing system architecture design and estimating efforts

Broad experience in communication systems supporting passenger information systems, mission critical subsystems, computer aided dispatching systems, security systems, CCTV, E-TEL, etc. preferred.

Education, Experience and Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience. Equivalent work experience in the railroad signal industry may be acceptable in lieu of the educational requirement.
  • 10+ years of experience in the rail industry.
  • Experience in formal integration/testing methods.
  • Experience with automated testing
  • Software development experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of railroad and transit systems operations, engineering principles and concepts, and general railroad operating rules.
  • Proficient knowledge of accepted railway industry quality standards and FRA regulations.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite (Excel, Office Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Word, and Project) and other computer skills and capabilities.
  • Must have good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Possess (or be able to possess within the probationary period), as applicable for the railroad customer(s) with whom services are performed, valid/current:
    • e-RAILSAFE
    • Roadway Worker Protection – Contractor Safety Certification
    • Contractor Orientation
