The Electrical Engineer shall be responsible for helping develop the next generation locomotive electrical architecture. This will include understanding the new power plant technologies such as batteries and fuel cells, and how to electrically couple them to a locomotive traction and auxiliary system. This role provides an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in the introduction of new technologies that will offer greater efficiency throughout the rail industry and enable our customers to meet their global strategic initiatives. The engineer should have good project management and organizational skills, demonstrated clear thinking and decision-making capabilities, ability to create and effectively evaluate large data sets, and demonstrate good communication skills at all levels of the organization. With any new technology this engineer will have to be able to be nimble and continuous learn and adapt.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the electrical integration design of fuel cells and batteries into a locomotive
  • Understand current traction and auxiliary electrical systems on locomotives and mining vehicles
  • Develop system level electrical architecture of locomotive
  • Tradeoff cost, performance, and reliability of system designs
  • Research and understand industry trends
  • Effectively communicate status and results both internally to Wabtec and externally to our customers
  • Seek opportunities to optimize and improve the overall product
  • Evaluate large data sets to recognize trends, formulate conclusions and provide recommendations
  • Troubleshoot locomotive issues and provide input for problem resolution
  • Lead in subsystem level FMEA’s and system safety analyses
  • Conduct design reviews and defend recommendations
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in a design environment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Strategic and creative thinking to analyze issues that may arise and create solutions.
  • Ability to respond positively to feedback and implement change in process and procedures as needed.
  • Experience in testing large, complex systems
  • History of interfacing with customers
  • Prior exposure to a manufacturing environment
  • Strong Project Management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
