Job Purpose

To provide electrical engineering expertise to engineering teams & project teams delivering rail vehicle enhancement projects and component overhaul services.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Engineering degree (or equivalent) / HNC in electrical engineering
  • A register engineer, ideally an Incorporated Engineer or aiming towards Incorporate Engineer registration
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in design or commissioning & maintenance of rail vehicle electrical systems or components
  • Experience in the specification, design, testing, maintenance, and failure investigation of electrical systems, machines or components
  • Experience in use of Electrical CAD system e.g. AutoCAD

  • Able to work with limited supervision, prioritise work and make effective decisions
  • Good communication skills; must be able to communicate and present technical issues effectively and concisely
  • Good ability and knowledge in using commonly used office applications and tools, including Microsoft® Office™, Microsoft Project™
  • Role requires working at different locations to support the delivery of projects and the performance and reliability of products

Principle Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Provide electrical engineering knowledge, experience and skills to engineering projects
  • Produce & check technical documentation including specifications, electrical design information, test plans & procedures, technical reports
  • Produce engineering calculations including cable rating, earth fault and over current protection co-ordination, insulation co-ordination
  • Undertake failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) for electrical systems
  • Provide risk evaluation, assessment and mitigation evidence for electrical safety hazards
  • Support investigations into failures of electrical systems & components, determine root cause and present findings
  • Interface with external and internal customers on engineering project progress and issues  
  • Conform to business processes and procedures
  • When requested, act on behalf of the Head of Electrical Engineering (Rolling Stock)
  • Perform any other duties within capabilities, training or experience

Quality, Health & Safety

  • Comply with company and statutory Quality, Health & Safety, Environmental and other policies and procedures
  • Ensure all reports proactively participate in Health & Safety management processes
  • Ensure that investigations and reports on failed / defective components are carried out in line with policies & procedures in a timely manner

Customer

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with current and potential customers in such a manner as to maintain the reputation of the company as a world class supplier of railway vehicle services

Continuous improvement

  • Identify methods of improvement within the area of responsibility
  • Link to the Wabtec group to deploy improvement initiatives (WMS, new technologies, etc.)
