How will you make a difference?
As a key member of the Wabtec Bus Solutions division, you will have technical ownership for the design and development of electrical products including door controls, ramps, lifts, charging/power transfer systems, and relay/contactor product lines. You'll design, analyze, and troubleshoot electromechanical systems, working as an integral part of Bus Solutions' Engineering team. Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor - Electrical Systems, you'll contribute significantly to the team's success in developing innovative electrical solutions for the transportation industry.
What do we want to know about you?
We would like to know if you meet the following criteria:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering
Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in electrical or electronics engineering roles, focusing on systems used in transportation applications
Prior experience with PCB-level electric circuit design for controllers responsible for distributed motor control and I/O, including integrated circuits, microprocessors, motor control circuitry, power supplies, I/O circuitry, signal conditioning, and typical board level communications protocols (I2C, SPI)
Prior experience with electrical systems design in automotive or transportation applications, with the ability to develop system level schematics, connection diagrams and topology diagrams
Proven expertise with a wide range of electrical test equipment, including multi-meters, analyzers, data loggers, and oscilloscopes
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problematic or defective electrical systems: electrical equipment, harnesses, electronic PCBs
Skill in building test setups, including assembly of prototype systems
In-depth knowledge of electromechanical component fundamentals and operational principles, particularly DC motors, relays, and contactors
Strong working knowledge of embedded power circuits for DC motor control
Preferred - familiarity with requirements from Transit industry standards and regulations, such as ADA, APTA, and NHTSA
Demonstrated track record of driving technical product improvements and implementing innovative solutions in previous roles
What will your typical day look like?
Design and develop electrical products based on customer specifications and technical requirements
Review and approve wire harness designs and routings for bus system applications
Perform hands-on electrical tests and evaluations of existing systems in an office, lab Develop, execute, or coordinate prototype tests for new or modified electrical assemblies
Collaborate with manufacturing and purchasing teams to resolve floor issues and address supply chain related challenges

Troubleshoot ongoing electrical system issues, including evaluating customer returns
Work with Wabtec Bus Sales and Field Service teams to investigate and resolve bus customer issues
Perform technical analysis and troubleshooting of electrical systems of varied complexity
Create electrical wiring diagrams and schematics for system, subsystem, and component level door equipment applications
Prepare electro-mechanical system test procedures for product validation testing
Participate in technical discussions and correspondence with customers' technical liaisons
Demonstrate excellent communication skills with fellow employees and customers
Support and assist supervisor and co-workers to meet deadlines
What about the physical demands of the job?
Primarily office-based work at the Buffalo Grove office
Occasional visits to manufacturing locations at Buffalo Grove IL and San Fernando CA.
Ability to use a computer and various software applications for electrical design for extended periods
Occasional need to build and assemble prototype and engineering test systems
Occasional need to inspect and work with physical electrical components and systems in an office, laboratory, on the manufacturing floor, and on transit buses or trains
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Occasional travel (15%) to customer sites may require standing, walking, and navigating transportation facilities.
You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
