The Electronics Engineer is responsible for design, development, test plan of RMS Mors Smitt products throughout their full lifecycle i.e. ideation, creation, type test / compliance test during product development phase, manual and automated testing during the production phase, and investigation test during the service phase.

A key aspect of this position is to provide advice, training, and support to other departments, Production, Sales, and Quality Assurance teams to enable delivery of exceptional customer service and support, coaching and mentoring others.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop design briefs for projects and coordinate projects.
  • Evaluate suitability of materials for engineering related applications.
  • Evaluate rapid prototyping applications.
  • Apply computer aided modelling and data management to engineering designs.
  • Apply physics to solving electrotechnology engineering problems.
  • Apply Design FMEA and Production FMEA to existing and proposed designs.
  • Design and develop electronics systems projects.
  • Design electronic printed circuit boards & printed wiring assemblies.
  • Integrate maintenance and testability fundamentals into an engineering task (DFT).
  • Integrate manufacturing fundamentals into an engineering task (DFM).
  • Investigate electronic controllers in engineering applications.
  • Produce and manage technical documentation.
  • Produce electrical/electronic schematic drawings.
  • Provide documentation to describe designs capabilities to sales staff.
  • Provide documentation to introduce new designs to production staff.
  • Assemble electronic prototypes.
  • Perform laboratory procedures.
  • Perform prototype testing.
  • Troubleshooting, Fault finding and repairing of electronic apparatus.
  • Select and test components for assembly of electronic circuits.
  • Identify suitable alternatives for components, to improve the ability to source components.
  • Select electronic equipment for Type, Production and Work Testing.
  • Use engineering applications software on personal computers.
  • Write specifications for electronic engineering products.
  • Participate in quality assurance techniques.
  • Perform basic electrical testing.
  • Prepare a simple cost estimate for a manufactured product.
  • Undertake root cause analysis.

Qualifications, Skills and Expertise

  • Electronics engineering with minimum mandatory 10 years post graduate experience, and bachelor’s degree, eligible for Engineers Australia membership.
  • Mandatory working experience in an ISO9001 systems and procedures environment.
  • Knowledge of high voltage electrical engineering systems.
  • Sound understanding of quality engineering principles and practices.
  • High level of computer literacy- Office 365 suite of applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, Project.
  • Experience with modern ERP systems.
  • Ability to handle pressure and deadlines.
  • Time management to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Project management skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills – ability to interact and gain the support of staff and senior management.
  • Altium Designer - Schematic AND PCB design.
  • Spice based Circuit Simulations.
  • Equipment operations: DMM, Power Supplies, Oscilloscopes, signal generators.
