The Fuel Equipment Component Engineer will be responsible for the continued improvement of diesel engine fuel equipment for locomotive, marine, and stationary power applications. The engineer will have technical responsibility for numerous components in the low and high-pressure fuel system. The engineer will support reliability, cost out, and NPI activities related to these parts.
What will be your key responsibilities?
The engineer should have demonstrated experience in the use of diesel fuel equipment, and component level understanding sufficient to develop concepts that meet application specific requirements including ambient conditions and duty cycle effects on reliability, performance, and overall life cycle cost. Also, a cursory understanding of alternate fuel types, benefits, drawbacks, and future trends for each. Serve as the main contact for fuel equipment reliability & cost improvements. Anticipate, develop, and apply fuel equipment technologies to current and future locomotive products to promote competitive differentiation in reliability. Predict field behavior of fuel equipment through the creation and utilization of analytical models that can be used to optimize component design. Maintain predictive models for existing fuel equipment reliability. Work with suppliers on long term improvements for component and develop plans to improve fuel system reliability and reduce cost. Conduct formal trade studies between contending concepts for product improvements. Ensure viability and defend recommendations in design reviews. Understand customer impact and major ‘pain points’ to focus reliability improvement efforts on the highest priority issues. Author and manage design documentation (review material, Component Functional/Purchase Specifications and Interface Control Documents, etc.). Provide engineering leadership and technical guidance to cross functional teams working projects in support of fuel equipment reliability, cost out, and new product introduction. Interface closely with fuel equipment suppliers, manage relationship and proper communication and interpretation of requirements. Lead component level FMEA’s and safety analyses where needed. Protect the intellectual property rights of the company.
What are we looking for?
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
Minimum of 3 years of experience (5 years preferred) in a role supporting existing product reliability
Experience with fuel carrying components, systems, and control interactions
