The HVAC technician is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing Wabtec HVAC systems from various Wabtec HVAC projects across both the Northeast (primarily) and the rest of the U.S. territories. The HVAC technician – Field Service is responsible for assisting with: the execution, oversight, and auditing of the Wabtec HVAC and APS/Inverter FMI crews.  This position is also responsible for assisting in training, overseeing, and audit other Field Service Representatives (FSRs) who provide some level of HVAC field service to the Carbuilders & Transit Authorities on Wabtec HVAC and APS/Inverter projects This position is also required to support other Wabtec systems (such as doors & brakes), as required.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Support activities for HVAC/Chiller & APS/Inverter projects:

  • Investigate, analyze, and repair in the field, failures of the Wabtec HVAC and APS/Inverter systems and make recommendations to the Wabtec Project Manager.  Support Wabtec`s customers as required.
  • Train, oversee, and audit other FSRs, who provide some level of HVAC field service support.
  • Create work orders for HVAC and APS/Inverter service calls and repairs.
  • Arrange to acquire and understand drawings and technical specifications of various Wabtec HVAC and APS/Inverter systems.
  • Understand Wabtec training material and documents.
  • Support the Wabtec training department in the field.
  • Provide assistance for any ‘unofficial on-car HVAC training’ to the Carbuilder and/or Transit Authority.
  • Manage tooling for HVAC and APS/Inverter repairs.
  • Comply with Wabtec and Carbuilder and Transit Authority safety procedures.
  • Manage warranty spares for active projects.
  • Participate in conference calls and meetings to support Wabtec Project Managers.
  • Ensure that all tools (being used) have valid calibration certificates.
  • Support the Project Management group as required, with investigations and data gathering.
  • Support Wabtec Engineering with technical feedback on their processes/designs/procedures.
  • Support other Wabtec systems, such as doors and brakes

FMI activities for HVAC & APS/Inverter projects:

  • When required:  Supervise Wabtec crews executing FMIs at the customer sites in the South East and Mid Atlantic territories.
  • Review Wabtec FMI documents and provide comments as required.
  • Order material/tools for FMI & support activities. 
  • Provide on-site training for Wabtec FMI crews.
  • When required, attend meetings at the customer sites and represent Wabtec. Prepare and submit reports of these meetings to the supervisor.
  • Organize/coordinate safety training for Wabtec field service personnel.
  • Undertake all assigned safety training courses in the Wabtec Learning portal on time.
  • Participate in the risk assessment of FMI activities.
  • Update FMI tracking spreadsheets.
  • Ensure that Wabtec QRS sheets are submitted by FMI personnel & supervisors.

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATION AND EDUCATION

EDUCATION:

  • Certification or diploma in HVAC maintenance/repair from a trade school or similar (including EPA Section 608 Technician Certification or equivalent) .

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as an HVAC service technician, including welding/brazing experience.

OTHER REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE and Experience:

  • Certified (EPA 608 or equivalent) to handle refrigerant
  • Read and understand electrical schematics and drawings
  • Experience in troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
