The Lab Test Engineer will support development, design and test of power electronic components associated with propulsion and auxiliary functions on our locomotive and off-highway mining truck applications.  Primary focus will be to support our liquid-cooled, power agnostic truck designs along with supporting our latest battery-electric “FlexDrive” locomotive components.  The Engineer will be responsible for handling day-to-day operations in both our power & thermal labs executing tests and planning priorities as required.  The Engineer will organize assets and ensure on time delivery of tests and data processing as required.

What are we looking for?

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Power Components Related Field

• Experience or training in control system design, lab setup techniques and PCB control schemes

• Working knowledge using Labview for automated control and Matlab for controls processing

• Experience with system level validation testing and ability to work hands on with tools, test equipment and other lab-related devices

• Experience operating and testing with Thermal Chambers

• Ability to recognize safety risks or setup related concerns and make update recommendations

• Design knowledge around IGBTs, Gate Drivers, Capacitors, Bus Bars, Cold Plates and other power related devices

• Solid organizational, oral, written and communication skills

What will be your key responsibilities?

The Lab Engineer will focus efforts on testing IGBT-based inverter and converter designs in a controlled lab environment to include double-pulse, short circuit, static, functional, and thermal level testing.  The Engineer will be responsible for setting up the test stands, instrumenting devices, configuring test equipment and then operate Labview-based test models to capture data in high voltage/current scenarios. The Engineer will also be responsible for coordinating test priorities, data processing, communicating monthly lab needs and documenting all corresponding test procedures as required.
