The Locomotive Controls Team consists of the overall train and vehicle controls for the Wabtec engineering 0rganization. These engineering groups contain a dynamic set of systems that are on the cutting edge of technology in the transportation industry, supporting the design of a diverse set of critical functions on the locomotive from air brake to the operating modes state machine to human machine interface. In this role the Lead Engineer will work with customers, various suppliers, engineering functions and/or industry agencies to identify and capture requirements and execute the design. This group is made up of nearly two dozen sub-systems and components as well as being the overall system integrator for customer-supplied equipment as well as driving overall infrastructure for the Control System.
What will be your key responsibilities?
The engineer will play a pivotal role in the development of the locomotive control system for complex projects such as battery electric locomotive and expansion into the transit market, creating and overseeing model development using Simulink while ensuring proper design processes are developed and followed by the broader team. Execute a variety of projects from follow-on orders (requisitions) through new product developments, ensuring proper definition of requirements and interfaces for locomotive control systems. Design, integrate, implement, and validate locomotive controls subsystem functions and human machine interface for locomotive, suitable for application in both English and non-English speaking environments. Use sound engineering principles and adhere to business standards, practices, procedures to develop product and program requirements. Lead and support investigation, root-cause identification, and resolution of reliability issues. Present to customers and suppliers and lead technical endeavors to develop Locomotive Controls technologies for the railroad industry. Ensure that the documentation of technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures. Be the program representative for locomotive controls on NPI programs and requisitions, managing schedule, outward communication of successes and failures.
What are we looking for?
Bachelor's degree in engineering
At least 1 year of experience with control design, diagnostics, and test
At least 3 years of experience in an engineering position
Ability and willingness to work "hands-on" in test labs and on locomotives with high HP (1000 KVA), medium voltage (2 KV) and high current (10 KA) systems.
