Role Summary/Purpose

The New Product Introduction - Lead Manufacturing Engineer is a flexible leader, effective in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. In this role you will utilize your manufacturing and engineering expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and effect short-term and long-term business goals.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Prepare the shop for model changes, new models, and mixed model production. Execute plans such in a way that no productivity or efficiency is lost during model changes.
  • Collaborate with the Operations and Lean teams, as well as design engineering, sourcing and vendors to develop locomotive processes using 3D models, drawings, difference reports, and operator load charts.
  • Manage high impact process and quality improvement projects yielding significant reduction in defects and increased productivity.
  • Improve tooling and fixturing within each high-performance work team.
  • Utilize lean-manufacturing principles and participate in action workouts to improve process capability, reduce overall costs, promote standardization, improve Time on Product, and increase capacity.
  • Own several plant-wide engineering operations initiatives.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in an Engineering discipline or Applied Sciences

  • Minimum of 2 years Manufacturing Engineering experience

  • Ability to travel internationally as required

Desired Characteristics

  • Operations leadership program graduate

  • Working knowledge of locomotive manufacturing: fabrication, coatings, assembly, electrical, and test procedures.

  • Experience with 3D model/CAD software

  • Strong skills in print reading, wire schematic reading, and engineering specifications

  • Experience with BOM (PLM) tools.

  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tool(s). (i.e. Oracle, SAP)

  • Strong data analysis skills

  • Ability to understand and communicate technical engineering focused information

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to communicate across levels and within a complex matrix

  • Flexible, self-driven, outgoing, passionate, and positive attitude about change

  • Effective critical thinker and problem solver

  • Innovative thinker, able to come with new ideas and willing to take risks to creatively solve issues

  • Understanding of finance and business drivers
