Role Summary/Purpose:

Lead Engineer – Mechanical test Engineer is responsible for mechanical component/sub system testing. He / She has to define test requirements and equipment needed, work with engineering, suppliers on design and development of test equipment /systems, determine conditions under which tests are to be conducted and procedures to be followed and perform special, standard and non-standard tests.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Translating the Engineering requirements into a Test requirement, development of specifications for lab test setup, Building the required test facilities and supporting the Validations of Engine, Electromechanical locomotive components and subsystems
  • Design and Develop innovative, scalable, flexible and test set ups, Test fixtures in the lab, Consistent with the Validation requirements of the product design teams.
  • Experience in development of Test set up or Rigs using generating concepts, analyzing the designed concepts, fixtures for robustness and life expectancy using hand calculations or using FEM tool.
  • Hold design reviews using standard Toll Gate, FMEA & EHS protocols, for test rigs, plans, procedures, test results reviews and Document test results.
  • Drive operational and execution excellence through innovative planning, resource engagement and close working with both local and global stakeholder teams.
  • The individual will also drive synergies with external labs/partners to expand our capabilities beyond in-house capacity
  • Work closely with site cross functional teams of EHS, Facilities, Compliance, Import/Export, Logistics etc to integrate lab plans as applicable for implementation
  • Provide Estimates of the Testing Duration as input to planning Process.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelors/Master’s degree in Mechanical engineering discipline from institute of repute 
  • Min. 8 Plus years’ experience in mechanical design, development and validation, preferably in the field of automotive / large bore engines/Locomotive Components.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Mechanical system /sub system/ component validations
    Strong understanding of Mechanical testing domain, ability to Design from fundamental physics /Engineering fundamentals and the application of the same
  • Hands on experience on vibration testing, Running Vibration systems, design & analysis of the fixtures for the same.
  • Familiarity with Industrial Automation and Controls Development.
  • Experience/familiarity in a lab environment with data acquisition systems, test instrumentation, industrial test laboratory environments and procedures
  • Experience with sensors including accelerometers, strain gages, thermocouples, load cells, and microphones and transducers.
  • Very good knowledge of GD & T , Materials & Manufacturing process with experience in Inspection methodologies & generating/reviewing manufacturable drawings.
  • Excellent oral & written technical communication
  • Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to influence stakeholders, solve problems, and deliver results
  • Ability to multi-task & prioritize effectively
  • Team player with ability to work with minimal direction
  • Strong organizational skills and prior success in working with cross-functional teams
  • Commitment to Integrity & Compliance

  • Global exposure with experience of working with global partners
  • Proven record of demonstrated expertise in mechanical component validation
  • Design of test benches and rigs and for laboratory testing and prototype testing
  • Advanced degree is a plus
  • Demonstrated capability of leading projects and executing on time/quality/cost.
