Summary:
Wabtec’s Precision Dispatch System (PDS) is an advanced software solution that provides real-time train dispatching functions that direct and control the movement of trains over a railroad network. This role is for a Lead Software Engineer on the Wabtec Flagship Dispatch Product called Precision Dispatch System (PDS). You will work in a fast-paced Agile team environment and be responsible for developing and testing software solutions for new functionality, remediating defects in existing functionality, and contributing to team success. The software you develop will be destined for services to be deployed in a cloud-based architecture using the latest software development techniques. You will be an individual contributor on an Agile software development team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
You will be a software developer responsible for designing, implementing, and testing new services using the Java language in the Quarkus framework
You will work with the product owner, UI engineer, and SW roles and translate requirements to back-end services and implement within a sprint cadence
You will be responsible for developing your own services and providing services development guidance to less experienced engineers on your team
You will perform design and code reviews of software developments from engineers on your team
You will integrate your backend REST services with front-end UI solutions and troubleshoot any issues
Write code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the technology selected for the project
Engage subject matter experts in the successful transfer of complex domain knowledge
Understand performance parameters and assess application performance
Proactively share information across the team, to the right audience with the appropriate level of detail and timeliness
Develop and deliver all process artifacts within the sprint cadence
Provides Status on Development progress against the sprint plan
Adhere to all Wabtec Engineering, Quality, and security processes
Actively participate in all Dev team Agile processes
Minimum Qualifications_:_
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Technology, or Engineering.
7+ years of software Industry experience
5+ years of Java Programming experience in back-end services
Highly proficient in spoken and written English
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
PLUS – Railroad or Dispatch Experience
PLUS – Full stack experience
PLUS - Quarkus
Strong Java programming skills and experience in developing backend services
Developing Unit Test for developed code
Strong Debugging skills between Front end and Back end services
Developing services using JAX-RS: Java RESTful Web services
Using and managing data using Java Persistent API (JPA)
Experience with the following formats: Jackson JSON processor and/or XML
Messages services : Kafka
Config mgmt. tools: GITHUB/GITLAB
Creating Docker Files and usage or similar Container technology
Cloud-native (AWS) Service environment
Self-starter and able to set the direction for self and others when uncertainty exists
Proactive work ethic to energetically identify risks and mitigate them
Attention to detail to create designs and quality code
Adapts to new environments and changing requirements. Pivots quickly as needed
Physical Demands:
Employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
Employee able to travel if needed less than 10%
Employee able to use a computer for programming and interacting with his team.
Work Environment:
The employee will typically work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment
Wabtec works in a hybrid model giving employees the flexibility to work remotely on Monday/Friday and in-office Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday
