SUMMARY STATEMENT OF WORK PERFORMED:       Utilizes mechanical, electrical, pneumatics, hydraulics, welding and metal working to repair and maintain plant machinery and equipment in compliance with established safety Policy and Procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of the job follow.  Management may assign other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

• Utilizes maintenance skills of electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics, and welding to complete special projects and most work order assignments.
• Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on machinery/ equipment to “intermediate” level.
• Performs plant start-ups and plant shutdowns.
• Maintains critical parts inventory.
• Participates in on-going training to advance toward Maintenance Mechanic 3 status.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

• Various hand tools (wrenches, saws, drills, hammers, etc.)
• Vertical and horizontal band saws
• Pipe threader (hand and electric)
• Welder and torch
• Electric grinders, porto-band saw, rotary drill, magnetic drill, reciprocating saw
• Radial drill press
• Pneumatic grinders, saws, impact gun
• Drain cleaners (electric and gas)
• Powered industrial trucks and lifts
• Multi-meter, Megger, Osiliscope

SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Working knowledge of machinery and physical plant operations.
• Intermediate level skills in electrical, hydraulics, boiler operations, mechanical, pneumatics, welding and metal working. 
• Basic PLC maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Ability to work without close supervision.
• Ability to solve maintenance-related problems.
• Self-motivated team player, problem-solver with a strong work ethic.
• Willing to work any shift, including weekends, and rotational call-in schedule on holidays.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is required to:

• Occasionally sit, bend, stoop, climb and lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (up to 2 hours/8 hour day)
• Frequently use hands and fingers to handle; reach with hands and arms; walk; stand; talk and hear (up to 6-hours/8 hours day)
• Possess close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Safety glasses, safety shoes and hearing protection are required.
• The ambient temperature level can exceed 100 degrees in the summer months.
• Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions year-round.
• Protective gloves required for electrical, gas cutting, welding or working with hot materials.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED is required. 

Two years of vocational training preferred but not required. 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of three (3) years of general maintenance required.

LEVEL OF PROBLEM SOLVING

ANALYTICAL SKILLS:  Must be able to collect and analyze data about machine operations and break downs to ensure efficient and safe operations of all machinery.  Critical thinking will help make decisions and help solve maintenance and operational problems.  Good communication skills are imperative. 

PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS**:** These skills are imperative while performing the daily tasks of this position especially when evaluating machine performance and repairing machinery.
