Key activities may include:

  • Facilitate visual board, toolbox and other production meetings as well as responsible for taking and completion of actions that arise.
  • Promote and lead by example with continuous improvement, lean and 5S initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and customer contacts.
  • Resolve issues and negotiate favorable outcomes in a professional manner.
  • Manage the performance of team members through coaching and feedback as well as identifying opportunities to develop and train staff to maintain a positive workplace culture and optimize capability within the team.
  • Ensure the working environment, plant, tooling and equipment is always maintained to a safe, clean and orderly condition.
  • Ensure all plant, tooling and equipment is calibrated and/or has preventive maintenance carried out in accordance with relevant requirements.
  • Take ownership of responsibilities and actively contribute towards the achievement of business performance goals, delivery timeframes and customer satisfaction.
  • Willing to work outside or beyond normal hours to support business requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as required to support business requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervise hourly production employees. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws.  Use appropriate judgment in upward communication regarding department or employee concerns.  Responsibilities include participating in the interviewing and hiring process; training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications/Special Skills and Abilities

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to lead, train, supervise, communicate and work effectively with others
  • Ability to independently resolve problems encountered
  • Maintain a working knowledge of company policies and procedures
  • Maintain a working knowledge of production processes, materials and equipment capabilities
  • Good skills with Microsoft Office including: Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook email
  • Safely operate a forklift to load/unload material as needed

Essential Experience

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent;
  • Five years or more related experience within a manufacturing or services environment.
  • Significant leadership experience, driving a high performing accountable workforce.
  • Effective organizational, time management, multi-tasking and communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office and MRP/ERP systems.
  • Current Driver’s license.

Desirable Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering
  • Formal leadership or management qualification.
  • Previous experience with rollingstock components in a manufacturing or services environment within the rail industry.
  • An understanding of the rail industry framework & related technical issues that arise.
  • Demonstrable application of LEAN methodologies within a production environment.
  • Currently Hold/Willing to obtain - Forklift, First Aid, Fire Warden, SARC, RIW.
