Role Summary/Purpose:

The South Dock Operations Coach will be responsible for frontline management of a team. In this role, you will direct the daily work activities of warehouse specialists (Chemical Warehouse, Supermarket, Shipping and Receiving Dock Operations) using effective communication and coaching. You will handle day to day responsibilities including time approval and work direction to meet site objectives. This role will continuously resolve issues through immediate action and have input on both short and long-term planning.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage south dock employees, delivery, and shipping schedule requirements to include timekeeping, overtime, time off and discipline
  • Support and meet delivery/shipping schedules, drive productivity and quality initiatives, and manage the area within budget guidelines and controls; utilize data analysis to improve safety, decrease quality defects, and increase productivity
  • Interface with internal and external customers, define priorities for shift and work group leveraging morning production meetings (and shift change meetings, as needed)
  • Provide manufacturing / technical assistance and leadership to assigned work group
  • Ship confirms locomotive shipments and execute inventory relief.
  • Submit, manage, and receive blanket POs for services to ensure uninterrupted services that support production (Consumables, Air Gas and Oil Services)
  • Owner of 4 South dock 6s areas, support team to deliver to the 6’s expectations/goals
  • Actively participate on cross-functional teams and demonstrate necessary leadership and coaching; facilitate operational star point projects and ensure High Performance Work Team objectives
  • Help train and develop skills of production employees; educate production employees on business strategy and metrics
  • Actively participate in Environment, Health and Safety initiatives and corrective actions
  • Communicate and enforce handbook and other plant policies

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college OR a High School Diploma / GED with at least 2 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • This role will engage with direct staff on a day shift and night schedule, and you may be asked to work overtime as necessary; due to the supervisory nature of this position, it is not available for remote work

Desired characteristics:

  • Previous experience in manufacturing, quality, sourcing or operations, management experience, priority given to applicants who have supervisory experience in a teaming environment
  • Ability to work effectively on a team and serve as a positive change agent
  • Strong analytical skills and willingness to learn and work as technical expert
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize aggressive deadlines
  • Understanding of LEAN and Six Sigma concepts – quality mindset
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, able to provide feedback and address employee issues in a positive manner
