Materials Manager – Locomotive Maintenance Facility

The Materials Manager is first and foremost a leadership role, trusted with overseeing Wabtec’s most valuable asset – our people. With a dynamic team of high caliber employees under your charge, you will ensure the continued success of the materials function for one of our most important customer locations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide effective and empathetic leadership, model desired behaviors, and ensure your team has the tools needed to be successful
  • Ensure the materials department’s actions, processes, and procedures provide the most efficient and cost-effective delivery of parts and material for our customers.
  • Build, monitor, and update inventory plans each year that include input from the customer and the sales team
  • Responsible for material planning and inventory metrics across a service segment
  • Plan for prevention of excess inventory and stock outs
  • Work with all levels of personnel (hourly, supervisory, and general foreperson) in resolving issues, tracking material availability, and advising on material usage
  • Work with customers externally and internally to identify new opportunities to improve our current processes
  • Lead Inquiry to Order (ITO) processes through Order to Remittance (OTR)
  • Develop proposals, negotiate with customers, and drive competitive pricing
  • Deliver business sales and contribution margin
  • Develops annual development and execution plans for the department.
  • Prepare and presents information to senior leaders on how technologies interconnect and contribute to overall strategy
  • Follows frameworks to get through the processes.
  • Fulfills any other material related responsibilities as required by account leadership – including tight tracking of overhauls and other “big ticket” items
  • All other tasks and duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college highly preferred (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience in Services).
  • Minimum of 3 additional years of experience in Materials Management, preferably in Freight Services, Maintenance, or a related field
  • Demonstrated successful leadership experience in dynamic and demanding environments
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously and delegate responsibilities effectively
  • Proven analytical and organizational ability
  • The ability to maintain reliable and predictable attendance
  • A high level of dependability, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal
