Role Summary/Purpose

The engineer will have design responsibility for Exhaust and Exhaust Gas Recirculation Components, Coalescer Systems and Mufflers used on large, medium-speed, diesel engines. The engineer will be responsible for reducing the cost and improving the reliability of engine components, via new product development projects, alternate source development projects, and/or changes to manufacturing processes. The engineer will be responsible for supporting manufacturing and assembly in both Wabtec Grove City, PA engine facilities (GRV and GRR).  The position will be located Grove City. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering and technical guidance for factory issues related to the manufacture, assembly, and test of Exhaust and Exhaust Gas Recirculation Components, Coalescer Systems and Mufflers.

  • Support Life Cycle Cost team in developing repair and unit-exchange technologies that reduce scrap and increase productivity.

  • Lead Reliability improvement projects

  • Evaluate Non-Conforming Material for potential repair and/or use.

  • Author Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to update CAD models and prints.

  • Author and manage design documentation.

  • Lead component level DFMEA’s, root cause analyses, and safety analyses where needed.

  • Protect the company’s intellectual property rights

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering

  • Experience in engine development

Desired Characteristics

  • Knowledge of welding steel components, including stainless steel

  • Experience in execution of reliability improvement projects involving root cause analysis, verification and validation of solutions.

  • Experience working cross-functionally with Sourcing, Manufacturing & Quality organizations.

  • Thorough understanding of GD&T

  • Experience in Weibull analysis

  • Project management

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Experience working directly with customers
