Summary:
Principal Architect on Wabtec Flagship Dispatch Product called Precision Dispatch System (PDS). This position is responsible for designing entire product or solution architectures, visualizing upstream dependencies across multiple versions, resolving system-level technical issues, resolving scalability and performance issues, and overall positioning of the product with reference to market and competition. The Principal Architect will drive PDS architectural and system-level design and development efforts in alignment with the product roadmap. Proactively identifies and solves highly technical and complex problems that directly enable PDS success. The Principal Architect will provide technical design guidance and oversight to the PDS engineering staff through proactive and planned design reviews and demonstrations. The PDS is destined for services to be deployed in a cloud-based architecture using the latest software development techniques.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Use technology expertise, Industry & competitive intelligence, and deep knowledge of customer preferences to conceive, evaluate, design & deliver superior product/service offerings that exceed customer expectations
Develop a lasting, innovative architecture that satisfies business and customer requirements, and aligns with the long-term plan for the product/service.
Apply a strategic understanding of the timing and rationale for design choices and identifies critical design areas early in the development process.
Recognizes patterns and complexity in problems. Extract decomposition algorithms, and strategically plan how to execute programs by understanding how best to decompose to expose/protect against risk.
Drive new ways of thinking, across groups within the division, to improve quality, engineering productivity, and responsiveness to feedback and changing priorities.
Find opportunities for collaboration across groups in the division, ensures that cross-team commitments are set, and achieve scale in his or her work efforts by enabling the work of others.
Proactively contributes to the development of organizational functional strategy.
Drive world-class quality in the development and support of products
Understand performance parameters and assess application performance
Proactively share information across the team, to the right audience with the appropriate level of detail and timeliness
Tailor communication to a variety of audiences and perspectives, and anticipates issues to prevent conflict.
Choose the appropriate internal or external technologies, incorporates research, create designs that are reused across the team, and be an excellent judge of practices that work well.
Define quality metrics, best practices, and coding patterns, and provides deep expertise on the coding strategy.
Minimum Qualifications_:_
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Technology, or Engineering.
12+ years of Software Industry experience
10+ years of Railroad and/or Dispatch or equivalent systems experience
10+ years of experience evaluating and improving software systems' functionality and performance
Highly proficient in spoken and written English
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proven ability to provide Services & Java mentoring and coaching to others on the team

Work Environment:
The employee will typically work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment
Wabtec works in a hybrid model giving employees the flexibility to work remotely on Monday/Friday and in-office Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday
