Summary:

The Principal Quality Engineer – Network Communications will be part of a team developing world class Digital Solutions focusing on driving high quality communications and network solutions. Modern digital solutions are dependent on having data and managing high quality network communications in a predictable timeframe, and successfully communicating across modern networks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This role provides quality leadership for network communications protocol, implementation and validation.  It will also recommend process improvements and support governance throughout the process including participating in critical architectural, design and test reviews.  S Principal Quality Engineer – Network Communications will participate in debug for critical issues.  

 In this role you will: 

• Develop whitepapers, guidelines for network architecture for embedded and enterprise systems for developing robust, resilient products.

• Develop network test strategy for integrated solutions. 

• Be responsible for the continuous improvement of process effectiveness and efficiency.  Support engineering teams developing, optimizing and implementing new Network related.

• Supporting architectural, design and test reviews.

• Supporting investigation and debug of network and protocol issues

• Develop and maintain metrics / measurement system for continuous improvement of network solutions. 

• Support continuous product and process improvement through detailed failure analysis for non-conformances, and development of effective and compliant solutions to prevent recurrence of issues and quality escapes. 

Minimum Qualifications_:_

(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject 

  • 7 years of experience in software development, implementation and/or quality

  • Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, tools, and processes

  • Expertise in LAN and WLAN communications, including the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues 

  • Expertise in IP based protocols such as UDP, TCP, ICMP, etc…

  • Expertise in network configuration

  • Ability to benchmark / stress test networks

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong team player 

  • High personal energy and self-accountability

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with both technical and nontechnical audiences 

  • Able to lead by influence while working in a matrix environment 

  • Experience with hardware virtualization platforms (VM) i.e. hypervisor

  • Experience with software automation

  • Understanding of firewall implementations and other network security methods

  • Familiar with Safety Critical Software Development

  • Experience working in an Agile environment, leveraging either Scrum or Kanban

  • MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject 

  • 10 years of experience in software design or test

Wabtec provides a competitive total compensation package that includes a comprehensive employee benefits program.

Wabtec also contributes Annual and Matching contributions to your 401(k) account to help your savings grow. Each pay period, Wabtec will match 100% of your contribution up to a maximum of 3% of your eligible compensation. Wabtec also will make an Annual Contribution of 3% of your compensation, whether or not you contribute your own funds to the Savings Plan. That’s a total of 6% of your annual compensation in Company-provided contributions!
