Role Summary/Purpose

The Monitoring Engineer will use cutting edge predictive analytics software and tools to analyze the health and performance of mining processes located around the world using remote monitoring technology.  In this position, the Monitoring Engineer will establish a trusted advisor relationship with external customers. You will collaborate with internal product and engineering teams in the Digital Mine business to help improve our product & service offerings to the mining industry.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Responsible for process monitoring with support from a subject matter expert in the Wabtec Performance Optimization Center.
  • The Remote Monitoring Engineer must leverage industry experience, knowledge, software know-how, and customer satisfaction skills to deliver world class process monitoring to assigned customer accounts.
  • Establish a deep understanding of our customers business and technical needs. Help identify opportunities, problems, and solutions across the Mining flow sheet.
  • Quickly learn and understand engineering processes related to mining industries, leveraging the experience of the greater team where necessary.
  • Quickly master cutting edge predictive analytics software and tools.
  • Be familiar with Process Control, Process Optimization, Asset Performance Management and Safety Concepts.
  • Support and maintain solutions at customers, remotely
  • Deftly manage customer expectations and satisfaction for assigned customer accounts.
  • Create a “trusted technical advisor” relationship with our customer's technologists and internal technical teammates.
  • Actively contribute to the multi-generational product plan managed by the Product Manager to drive competitive and technological differentiation for Wabtec Digital Mine's products & services.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Chemical, Metallurgical or Process Engineering, post-graduate qualification will be beneficial
  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in mining processing operations
  • Practical Mining Processing industry knowledge
  • Production process problem solving capability, with preference of applying Advanced Analytics
  • Software and/or optimization background, including analytics background and practical experience in one or more of the following: process monitoring and automation, PID control loop performance monitoring and tuning, Process Optimization, Advanced Process Control, Model Predictive Control, process modeling, data mining, industrial instrumentation, will be beneficial
  • Strong written and verbal skills, at engineering and staff levels
  • Fluent written and verbal communication in English
  • Technical leadership potential, with excellent client facing and presentation skills
  • Office/monitoring center-based job, but with ability and willingness to travel as and when required.

Desired Characteristics

  • Knowledge in analytics and statistics
  • Knowledge of or experience in plant processes and how these are represented by data streams in the Mining industry
  • Experience in information systems (historians)
  • Industry experience with engineering and control problems
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a high degree of creativity/resourcefulness
