Wabtec Digital Solutions is working on customer-focused state-of-the-art software solutions targeted to optimize the Transportation and Logistics ecosystem. As Senior Firmware Engineer, you will be responsible for building the architectural capability and roadmap for software products helping achieve desired outcomes for our customers. This strategic role defines the technology roadmap and data aggregation platform for global customers.

Wabtec provides vision-based wayside detectors for the rolling stock maintenance market. Its non-contact measurement technology enables highly detailed condition assessment of train components-ranging from wheel surface condition to full train inspection-on trains operating in service and at high speeds. Wabtec's wayside systems, software applications, and image analysis technology enable Train Operating Companies (TOCs) to manage fleet maintenance and operation through automatic measurements and inspections. Real-time alarms, alerts, and reports enable significant reductions in maintenance costs and increase fleet availability for revenue generation.

The Senior Firmware Engineer will be responsible for providing technical guidance, participating in defining technical cloud development strategy, identifying, solving, and/or escalating key technical challenges, and being willing to get hands-on with the team to develop and deliver capabilities as necessary. The Senior Firmware Engineer will support software design, OO concepts, microservices, front-end responsive websites, and backend services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                          

  • Responsible for providing technical leadership and defining, developing, and evolving software in a fast-paced and agile development environment using the latest software development technologies and infrastructure
  • Help define and then communicate/apply technical strategy to daily activities and ensure products evolve toward the strategy
  • Work with product owners to balance technical debt with new product capabilities
  • Responsible for evaluating emerging & established technologies against product requirements and for delivering platform/ product solutions along with tools and processes to support robust designs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to help team members through pair programming and code reviews
  • Be a technology advocate in business and customer interactions
  • Promote design of and aid in developing high-performing and scalable end-to-end microservices that can integrate with the rest of the microservices ecosystem
  • Has the ability to evaluate technology choices and articulate tradeoffs
  • Applies principles of SDLC and Lean/Agile/XP/TDD/CI/CD methodologies to deliver high-quality, secure, and scalable software modules, documentation practices, refactoring, and testing techniques
  • Skilled in writing code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the technology selected for the project
  • Skilled in core data structures and algorithms and implements them using any language of choice
  • Work with product line leaders and architects to develop multi-generation software technology plans
  • Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse
  • Support process improvements that guide the development, sustaining & support activities
  • Mentor and develop team members and help them grow technically on emerging technology trends as well as domain
  • Work cross-functionally with other business departments to align activities and deliverables
  • Drive world-class quality in the development and support of products
  • Understand performance parameters and assess application performance
  • Proactively share information across the team to the right audience with the appropriate level of detail and timeliness
  • Have the ability to innovate and lead strategic planning for upcoming product roadmap items ahead of engineering teams

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachler’s of Science Computer Engineering /EEE /IT or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
  • At least 3 years of experience in software development.
  • Programming experience with API development using Windows MFC/Visual Studio
  • C/C++, FPGA/VHDL, Arduino, or other Microcontroller experience.
  • Experience in the development and debugging of National Instruments devices.
  • Experience in Design, Development, and Debugging Cameras and Camera API.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented contributor with demonstrated ability to think outside the box to achieve goals and deliver results efficiently
  • Must be able to work independently and with others in a small team as the situation requires
  • Must be able to learn quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must demonstrate strong communication, organization, planning, and documentation skills
  • Excellent software development skills, including debugging and unit and integration testing.
  • Programming experience with any programming language (C++,C#, Java or Python)
  • Utilizing Azure DevOps for CI/CD and maintaining the web front-end 
  • knowledge of networking and basic troubleshooting (TCP/IP, IP address space and subnetting, route tables, etc.)
