Summary:

The Sr Manager for Data Science & Applied Innovation will lead a team of data scientists and machine learning engineers to build and launch new machine learning initiatives within the Digital Advanced Technologies (DAT) organization at Wabtec. DAT is a cross-disciplined entrepreneurial group focused on developing and delivering new transformative digital solutions by leveraging the power of big data and advanced analytics. As the engineering manager for Wabtec’s AI CoE, you will work to build, empower, and grow data scientists and ML engineers throughout the organization. You will be responsible for executing efforts to deliver on strategic initiatives and new AI product development growth targets. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• General Responsibilities

  • Drive framework of new AI product development initiatives throughout the business.
  • Establish goals within framework of the technical and financial objectives for the group.
  • Maintain awareness of efforts within the group to assure technical quality excellence, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of resources, and responsiveness to customer/program needs.
  • Facilitate communication of technical and business information between organizations, within work group, and broadly to the industry as required.
  • Communicate with management on technical, organizational, resource and personnel issues
  • Participate in events and industry associations to influence the direction for the business and technology in the segment
  • Provide support counsel and recommendations to management
  • Define and execute cross functional leadership collaboration plans

• Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and hands-on management for the data science and ML engineering team.
  • Monitoring and reviewing the work of staff members, including conducting annual performance reviews, as well as participating in the annual salary and benefit planning processes.
  • Promote professional growth of team members through feedback, coaching, and counseling, as well as utilizing available development tools.
  • Ensuring staff compliance with company policies, initiatives, and training requirements.

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or another STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) related Major.
• Minimum of 8 years of technical experience along with established leadership credentials.
• Experience leading teams in the development of various ML solutions from proof of concept, MVP and production architecture.
• Experience in launching structured and unstructured machine learning initiatives both in the edge and cloud.
• Experience in the fields of AI/ML, video analytic edge computing, Kubernetes, and Docker solutions
• Experience working in complex orgs
• Willingness to travel globally as required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Proficient in C/C++, Python, GO or similar lagnuages

• Proficient with computer vision tools such as open CV, Deep Learning Frameworks (Keras, TensorFlow, PyToch)

• Working knowledge in Cloud, Cloud Native applications and application platforms.
