As a key Member of the Wabtec Control Systems Team, the purpose of the Senior Signalling Engineer is to provide high level technical support and supervision in relation to design, checking and validating signalling systems in accordance with statutory, regulatory, company and client standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promote and ensure the appropriate standards of health, safety and environmental management are adhered to.
  • Prepare schedules for preliminary and detailed designs of signalling systems that comply with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor progress and initiate remedial action where required to ensure signalling projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Supervise preparation of documentation for standards and specifications in relation to signalling systems.
  • Provide high level technical support for all signalling projects as required.
  • Act as independent checker verifying signalling designs and application data prepared by others.
  • Participate in factory acceptance testing and/or site testing of signalling systems and equipment.
  • Participate in the commissioning of signalling systems.
  • Report on signalling projects as required.
  • Develop individual and team competence.

Working Relationships

  • The Senior Signalling Engineer works close with Engineering Staff, the PMO and Project Management.
  • Maintains and fosters relationships with current and potential stakeholders, in particular, clients, service providers, contractors, subcontractors and employees.

Qualifications and Skills


  • Degree qualified in Engineering or Equivalent.
  • Substantial experience working as a senior signalling engineer.
  • Expert user of Microsoft Office in particular Word and Excel.
  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD or Microstation.


  • Rail Provider certificate/statement of competencies.
  • IRSE Accreditation.
  • ARTC Accreditation.
