Role Overview

The Senior Systems & Solutions Architect will develop and deploy complex integrated solutions and systems for the Rail/Transit industry.  The Solution Architect role will own the Wabtec solutions we propose, implement, and deliver to our customers.

Development of a standard process, data driven estimation, and standard solution conceptual designs is an initial priority of the Solutions Architect.

For executing projects, the Solutions Architect will be relied upon for technical oversight of the project at milestone reviews, an available resource for risk mitigation activities, and designated as top tier escalation path for project critical technical issues.   Solutions Architects are also expected to act as Project Engineering Leads when necessary.

Beyond projects and proposals, the Solutions Architect will facilitate communications with Project Engineering Leads (PELs) to ensure emergent issues, solution modifications, and lessons learned are shared with the projects through the PELs.

Primary Responsibilities:

·       Lead the way on developing new engineering or business opportunities in technically related markets.  Identify problem spaces and candidate solutions.

·       Lead Engineering in bid and proposal efforts for Wabtec by providing technical leadership and guidance on the proposed solution, cost estimation, and technical proposal documentation.

 ·       Provide input and participate in strategic planning with a focus on technology enhancements, industry trends, and long-term solution vision.

·       For approved strategic technical initiatives, plan and oversee the execution of the initiative from inception to completion.

·       Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting for all projects as a top tier escalation path.

·       Facilitate information sharing and technical interchanges with Project Engineering Leads to ensure technical coordination amongst the projects.

·       Identify and implement process improvement initiatives through process development, documentation, training and oversight.

·       Participate in customer facing technical interchange meetings to represent Wabtec Engineering and the greater engineering community.

Qualifications:

• Candidates for this role should possess a STEM Bachelor’s degree and five years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced STEM degree and three years of prior relevant experience
• 4+ years in a Systems Engineering or Software Engineering Role
• 4+ years’ experience in complex software-based systems
• 4+ years’ experience in Rail Industry Based Systems or Operations is preferred
• 2+ years’ experience in Systems Architecture, Software Architecture, Lead Engineer or Solutions Architecture
