Summary: Responsible for the application of current electronic Bus (VBI & Ricon) products as well as the design and development of new electrical and electromechanical products. Designs, tests, analyzes and troubleshoots electromechanical systems. Works as an integral part of the Bus Engineering Group.

Essential Competencies, Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Minimum 8 years professional experience in PCBA Hardware Development

  • PCB Layout experience, using Altium or similar

  • Experience with Analog and digital circuit design.

  • Experience with communication protocols, such as CAN (J1939 etc.), RS-232, USB etc.

  • Experience with electrical system architecture and design for embedded systems using microcontrollers

  • Working knowledge of FPGA’s and VHDL

  • Experience with power management (AC/DC, battery power etc.) for low voltage devices

  • Experience with control systems, such as DC motor control and electro-pneumatic systems

  • Prepares electrical wiring diagrams and schematics for system, subsystem and component level product applications

  • Firmware and/or software development experience a plus, may include C/C++/C#

  • Knowledge of electrical test equipment including multimeters, analyzers, loggers, oscilloscopes etc. and their application in testing and troubleshooting circuit designs

  • Ability to debug firmware running on PCBA hardware, using oscilloscope and other lab equipment

  • Troubleshoots and evaluates customer product returns that require engineering review as well as technical analysis and troubleshooting of simple and complex electrical systems in house and in the field.

  • Knowledge of electromechanical component basics and fundamentals of operation (e.g. solenoids, relays, motors etc.)

  • Demonstrates good written and oral communication skills and communicates regularly and effectively with fellow employees, and customers

  • Demonstrates good technical writing skills. Prepares and reviews product requirements documents, field reports and test reports when required.

  • Good working knowledge of MS Office software suit including MS Project.

Secondary Competencies, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leadership skills to support and assist supervisor and co-workers to meet deadlines

  • Experience implementing wireless solutions for Bluetooth,

  • Designs wire harnesses and routings to satisfy the requirements of mobile environment applications.

  • Prepares electro-mechanical system test procedures for routine / in process production testing as well as new product validation test plans

  • Participates in technical discussions and / or correspondence with customer’s technical liaisons when required to provide product technical information and application assistance

  • Knowledgeable in design of experiments, test set ups and execution. Knowledge of Labview / Data logging is a plus.

  • Applications: Knowledge of customers and models used, Configuration control documents; must develop intimate working knowledge of a wide cross section of Wabtec Bus electrical products.

  • General: Solidworks, Autocad, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Engineering design methodology, Some experience with Project management

  • Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in electrical engineering, from four-year college or university; and minimum of 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience in the transit vehicle industry and/or experience with related products is a plus.
