Job Overview:
This role is for Movement Planner product as part of Network Optimization in Wabtec Digital Electronics. Person in this role is responsible for designing and programming a small module or a large component and designing a feature, set of features, or whole feature area.
Wabtec’s Movement Planner (MP) is an advanced software solution that provides real-time traffic planning. MP has a simulation-based planning algorithm that uses heuristics to make intelligent decisions to optimize train movements & improve railroad operations.
You will help improve Movement Planner to move freight faster at a lower cost while using existing rail networks. Work independently and contribute to the immediate team and teams across the business. You will build simple solutions to complex problems, with a large number of variables and scenarios considered and optimized in a small amount of time in an agile framework.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop reliable software using C++
- Deliver fully tested and shippable software for Movement Planner, as part of a Scrum team.
- Understand a complex planning algorithm to effectively answer customer questions, resolve defects, and make enhancements.
- Identify and quickly resolve time critical production issues
- Contribute to peer reviews with the intent of strengthening the quality of software.
- Provide ongoing maintenance, support, and enhancements to existing systems and platforms
- Challenge yourself and the team to continuously improve
- Improve automated tests to support continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD)
- Collaborate with Product Managers and Product Owners to maximize the value provided to customers with every release.
- Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies like Lean/Agile/XP, CI, Software and Product Security, Scalability, Documentation Practices, refactoring and Testing Techniques
- Write code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the technology selected for the project. Drive world-class quality in the development and support of products
- Expert in breaking down problems and estimate time for development tasks.
- Demonstrates the ability to make informed technology choices after due diligence and impact assessment.
- Understands whole product, its modules and the interrelationship between them while being an expert in the assigned component or module.
- Helps in designing interfaces and information exchange between modules. Serves as subject matter expert (SME) on one or more major modules.
- Possesses advanced domain knowledge and shows great customer focus.
- Demonstrates clarity of thinking to work through limited information and vague problem
definitions.
- Expert in processes / methodologies and Skilled in build, release & deployment processes.
- Articulates the need for scalability and understands the importance of improving quality through testing.
- Drives design reviews, defines interfaces between code modules, and applies existing
technology to designs.
- Expert in assessing application performance and optimizing/improving it through design and best coding practices.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
- 7-9 years of overall professional experience in software development life cycle
Minimum Requirements:
- 5+ years of professional experience in Object Oriented Programming and Design
- 5+ years of software development experience in C++ and DataStructure and Algorithm, Design patterns
- Knowledge/work experience in Java will be an added advantage for the candidate selection
- Proficient with Agile development methodologies such as Scrum
- Hands-on experience testing/debugging software and providing solutions
- Experience triaging problems with sense of urgency.
- Ability to document system designs clearly and concisely.
- Skilled in breaking down problems, creating user stories and estimating effort of work.
- Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to articulate clearly and concisely
- Self-driven, quick learner, results-oriented, and a clear focus on high quality
- Able to work well with global teams, including time-zone flexibility
- Ability to takes ownership of small and medium sized tasks and deliver while mentoring and helping team members
- Experience leading software development for new product introductions
- Must be a good team player and strong interpersonal skills to work in a scrum team of developers and testers.
