Job Description Summary –
This role is for Movement Planner product as part of Network Optimization in Wabtec Digital Electronics. Wabtec is seeking an experienced and qualified Sr Product Owner having transportation industry domain knowledge/experience in rail traffic/route planning and optimization and visualization, and development of software products in this domain and will be responsible for defining, grooming and prioritizing features/stories for product incremental growth, implementation and developing adjacent solutions for customers. Working closely with stakeholders across the organization, the product owner will scope and create roadmaps and requirements and deliver on-time and high-quality software products and components that align with business goals. The candidate will support the company’s strategy to develop an improved development process and build a strong engineering team in Bangalore that is self-reliant, skilled, motivated and implement the tactics, within their role, associated with that vision. The candidate will serve as a primary liaison between engineering team based out of Bangalore and product management, customers and other scrum teams based in US and Australia. The product owner must be experienced in managing all aspects of roadmap creation, backlog grooming, and feature/epic/user stories/defects refinement. The product owner will be expected to gather feature/user story requests and user or business requirements, prioritize them, and break down epics and features with development teams. The product owner in their role scope is expected to drive improvement in development team’s productivity and velocity by efficient backlog grooming and prioritization, define sprint goals that can be achieved without spillovers and add value to customers, remove functional impediments and ensure Wabtec’s RAILS control point/release quality processes are followed. The product owner is expected to drive better coordination between scrum teams across India and US and Australia, implement measures to increase product and functional knowledge of the team and act as the point contact for POs and PMs from US/Australia teams. Besides excellent product management execution skills and experience, the candidate must have a deep understanding and passion for what is important for developers to do their jobs free of friction and unnecessary overhead and making sure team is highly productive. A person who can balance both technical and functional mindset is a preferred candidate. This role will be based out of Bangalore Wabtec office and will be reporting to the Sr. Manager of Engineering. This role will be working for Network Optimization products under Network Optimization division of Digital Electronics
Essential Responsibilities –
Act as a Subject/Domain matter expert in Network optimization/rail traffic planning and optimization and visualization and development of software products in this domain Work with product management, product owner(s), system architects, technical leads, end customer, project managers to appropriately capture and define feature requirements, use cases, product defects, acceptance criteria and to organize them into properly prioritized user stories. Work with stakeholders to create and organize product enhancements and defect backlogs Works in an Agile environment, proficient with Agile development methodologies such as Scrum and continuously reviews the business needs, refines priorities, outlines milestones and deliverables, and identifies opportunities and risks This is an individual contributor role that entirely owns a key product Movement Planner and R&D initiatives ensuring the success for both product management and Engineering teams Owns backlog grooming of user stories, defects and provides maximum clarity for requirements and acceptance criteria/definition of work done to the development team Making sprint more efficient by identifying what goes in and what doesn’t, clearly defines sprint objectives and outcomes and customer value addition Product owner in their role scope is expected to drive improvement in development team’s productivity and velocity by efficient backlog grooming and prioritization and sprint planning. Breaks down big features, user stories, defects into smaller work that can be completed in a sprint and also provide value delivery to customer. Owns sprint iteration planning and resolving all functional & technical confusions and roadblocks for the development team Assisting in stories related to technical debt Owns quarterly PI planning and creates a clear product roadmap for the development team working with stakeholders and tracks and refines backlog through the PI. Responsible for US/defects backlog management that includes defining and communicating product goal, creating, and communicating product backlog items, making backlog transparent, understood, and visible to team Provide domain knowledge to the development team in a timely manner and collaborate with product SMEs and other POs and stakeholders to get additional support in a proactive manner Works with scrum team of developers and testers as a scrum master along with PO responsibilities Support scrum values by adhering to scrum principles and practices along with the scrum team’s specific approaches Assist scrum masters in assessing the scrum maturity of the team and implementing any processes that support the team Partners with stakeholders and customers across the organization to inform the product vision, strategy, features, and prioritization. Develops, owns, and executes product roadmap. Translates product roadmap features into well-defined product requirements including features, user stories, and acceptance test criteria Implement measures to increase product and functional knowledge of the team and act as the point contact for POs and PMs from US/Australia teams Prioritizes and maintains the sprint backlog for assigned products, balancing the requirements of stakeholders Leads the product functional design process based on an intimate knowledge of the users and technology. Develops and maintains appropriate tracking and reporting of product performance post-launch to evaluate future investment Turns data insights into products with actionable outcomes to the ultimate customer Needs to ensure that the quality of the product is not compromised both in terms of the application quality and security Conduct R&D for engineering service enhancement and expansion Shows increasing understanding of the technology stack and its impact on the final product. Demonstrates ability to influence customers and product managers through persuasion and influencing. Partners with Service Owners/ Development Managers to ensure healthy development process.
Education, Job Qualification and Skill Requirements –
Bachelor’s Degree in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with 5+ years of professional experience in the technology space 8 - 11 years of overall professional experience 4+ years of experience in Product Management, scrum master and product development. 2+ years of transportation industry domain knowledge/experience in rail traffic planning and optimization and visualization Balance of technical knowledge and business acumen Experience in UX technology and frameworks Prior technical experience in java, front end like angular is desirable Should have prior experience in cloud implementation projects Established background in launching software or services in partnership with engineering teams and high degree of proficiency in prototyping, iterative development, understanding of Agile principles Support the creation of a clear vision for a feature/US/product defects with stakeholders and transmit it to development team Demonstrates the initiative to explore alternate technology and approaches to solving problems and achieve right business outcomes Proactive, self-starter with excellent project management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage, influence, and inspire partners and stakeholders to drive collaboration and alignment Have demonstrated experience working with global teams, work with agile development and test team and multiple POs from various scrum teams. High degree of organization, individual initiative, and personal accountability Personal experience as a developer/technical lead, including a well-informed opinion of the developer mindset and what’s most important to their success. Proven track record of delivering data driven solutions with a customer-first mindset Experience successfully driving end-to-end delivery partnering with stakeholders and engineering team Ability to think and communicate at multiple levels, from conceptual product architecture to minute implementation details at the same time. Excellent collaboration and team building skills. Is precise in thinking, communication, and tactical execution. Practices extreme ownership.
