JOB SUMMARY:

Wabtec is a leading global provider of equipment, systems, digital solutions, and value-added services. Whether it's freight rail, transit, mining, industrial or marine, our expertise, technologies, and people - together - are accelerating the future of transportation. We are looking for Systems Engineer to join our growing Engineering team, design, develop and support customers for the wayside asset monitoring projects.

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for developing System Documentation and Design Requirements for wayside monitoring applications and systems.  In this role, the engineer will work closely with a team of Software Engineers, Electrical Systems, Electrical Design, and Mechanical Packaging Engineers.

This role will involve short term visit to Wabtec’s Perth, Australia facility for training and documentation.  The permanent location of the position will be in Bengaluru, India.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop System Functional Specifications and Product Descriptions for a product.
  • Develop installation, bill of material, test instruction and troubleshooting guide.
  • Manage (Configure , calibrate,  test and maintain) and monitor all the installed systems and the infrastructure and ensure highest level of availability.
  • Participate in design reviews with the engineering team as presenter and reviewer and document.
  • Develop system validation plan and perform validation testing for new and/or enhanced NPI products in Simulator and/or locomotive
  • Identify and Analyze field problems through root cause analysis and work with stakeholders to propose solution and implement the fixes
  • Identify areas for productivity and cost savings
  • Travel to customer locations for customer inputs & solution architecture design
  • Improve & drive improvements in customer/field support on troubleshooting and training
  • Work with customers, field service and factory location for installation/integration of product lines
  • Perform feasibility study to identify solutions for customer needs and estimate bill of material, engineering efforts and timeline for commercial proposal.
  • Maintain well-written, revision-controlled documentation of concepts, designs, drawings, and processes in accordance with Wabtec’s data management and controls policies

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor’s /Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics engineering, STEM, Software Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, or other technical / science discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years hands-on design and implementation experience involving; Engineering Systems, Hardware / Software Engineering, and/or Electrical Design
  • Minimum 2 years hands-on experience and proven track record in installing, configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting

Desired Characteristics

  • Self-starter with the ability to lead the effort with minimum supervision
  • Background in System Design and Validation on systems involving
  • Proven troubleshooting skills, analytical, problem-solving techniques.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
  • Experience with Requirements Management Tools, and Defect Tracking tools
  • Knowledge in Locomotive Systems and Railroad Operating Practices
  • Understanding and translating customer requirements for wired and wireless communications solutions
  • Understanding and translating customer requirements for Applications development for software solutions
  • Experience working in systems including Ethernet, TCP / IP
  • Experience with System Testing Processes, Tools, and Automation
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional groups, global environment
  • Ability to engage and build positive relationships with both customers and internal and external employees
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Customer Technical Interface experience and Strong customer service orientation.
