Summary:
Wabtec is looking for a Technical Writer to produce high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of our products. You will join a team of talented tech writers who work collaboratively with developers, quality engineers, and product managers to make our products easier for our customer base of over twenty-five customers worldwide to use and administer our applications.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Design and develop operation and system administration manuals for Wabtec Applications
Update manuals as needed to meet product improvements and customer requirements
Ability to take and edit photos for use in manuals
Design and implement updates and changes to existing manuals
Dept. Cross-Training
Interacts with other departments to obtain pertinent information
Team player attitude required to be part of a multi-functional project team
Assist in the creation of company standards for tech publication manuals of all types
Communicate project status
Meet project deadlines established by manager
Drive continuous improvement
Assist in establishing professional development goals
Able and willing to travel up to 10%
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing or related degree preferred. Associate degree in technical writing or relevant degree accepted. Or 3+ years of railroad experience in Dispatch and daily Railroad operations in lieu of a degree
Minimum of 3 years of related tech writing experience, preferably in heavy equipment/rail field
Familiarity with machine operating software and writing instructions for use, prefer experience in railway maintenance or other heavy mobile equipment field
Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Prior Railroad experience
Prior experience generating manuals in Microsoft Word or Dev ops (Coordinating images with text, outlining manual content)
Generate operational steps from engineering photos and videos
Ability to work in a multi-disciplined environment, interfacing with customers, suppliers, co-workers and management.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Results driven
Mechanical aptitude
Ability to change course, stop and start projects, juggle more than one project at a time
Detail Oriented
