The Opportunity

Endless opportunities abound at the Fortune 1 company to jump start your post-college career via Walmart's summer Accounting & Finance Development Program (AFDP) internship. We are searching for exceptional leader-potential students, to not only participate in the internship, but who also have an interest in a full-time position with the exclusive two-year Accounting & Finance Development Program upon graduation. Each year, a limited number of candidates are selected to launch their career in an accelerated development rotational program that places them on a career fast track at the world's largest retailer. Opportunities exist in a range of different business areas and geographical areas, including our Global eCommerce complex in Silicon Valley.

The Internship

The opportunity begins with a fast-paced 10-week internship. You will have the chance to work on challenging, innovative, and strategically relevant projects that will drive our business forward and impact not only the business, but our customers. Through a hands-on experience, you will learn how to navigate and own a project in a dynamic team environment. Accounting and finance experience can be gained through teams in Strategy, Operations, Merchandising, Treasury, Capital Markets, Tax, Controller's Office, Supply Chain, Marketing, Financial Services, Real Estate, Forecasting, Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and many more!

The Experience

There is no substitute for 'feet-on-the-ground' experience. You will encounter our culture-in-action by participating in the Walmart Annual Shareholders' Meeting, and other events with Walmart associates from around the world. You will also benefit from leadership development, professional mentorship, and technical training. Finance and accounting interns also have exclusive exposure to Senior Walmart Leaders, including CEO/CFO-level executives. One highlight of the summer is the intern lunch hosted by the CFO. Life-long relationships will be developed with other interns through company-wide events sponsored by the Corporate Intern Program, such as community volunteering, distribution center tours, store tours, and community events. These activities will allow you to learn more about Walmart and socialize with interns in different business areas. All internships are paid, with housing and relocation benefits included.

The Requirements

Students pursuing a BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, Strategy, or other business-related fields will be considered (3.0 GPA Required, but higher performance taken into account). In addition, 6 credit hours of accounting upon graduation is required.

The Intangibles

More important than the focus of your study is the enthusiasm you bring to the role. You must demonstrate the ability to grasp concepts quickly and make your presence felt. Intellectual curiosity is essential, as you have 10 weeks to be a student-of-the-retail-business, while adding value to your team. Your style must be forward and persuasive as you are asked to solve problems with a high degree of complexity. Throughout the summer, you will be evaluated based on your performance across five metrics: Critical Thinking, Analytical Ability, Interaction/Communication, Leadership and Potential.
