About the Team:

Sam’s Mobile Solutions team is a cross functional innovative team focusing on Sam’s Club member facing mobile applications. Our engineering team built top rated android and iOS apps helping millions of our members shop online and in club. Our signature projects include Scan and Go, Sam’s Mobile Fuel, Sam’s Concierge Service, and Curbside pickup.  We also work closely with the Sam’s now club in Dallas, which is a club with and directive for innovation and experimentation.

You’ll sweep us off our feet if: 

  • You love code. You love to take raw ideas and build great products with Kotlin on Android. You might like to talk about obscure computer science topics, but really, you just want to write simple code and ship new products and features to customers (or improve existing ones).
  • You love great UX. You spend most of your time coding, but you also have an eye for great design and a feel for great UX. Maybe you were once a designer (or still are) or maybe your creative outlet has always been the code. Either way, you care about more than just the code.
  • You love learning new things. You love researching new tech and driving forward with the implementation details. Your focus is on Android app development with Kotlin, but you can dig in wherever needed. Java, Javascript, Node.js, GraphQL, build tools, shell scripts, you name it. If you don't already know it, you're ready to learn it.
  • You have a deep interest and passion for technology and want to build next-generation front end applications. You come from the retail industry.
  • You are curious about building highly available, highly resilient systems with single-digit latency and want to build them in real life where every day you are solving a new challenge and learning new things. You have had a role that consists of designing, developing code, bug fixing, and DevOps.
  • You are a fast learner and have strong problem-solving, analytic, decision-making skills.
  • You have excellent communication with interpersonal skills. 
  • You enjoy taking ownership and delivering on a commitment. 
  • You work well with Proof of Concept (POC) and Minimum Viable Product projects.  Sometimes these projects will not be well defined or move past POC.  You understand big picture needs and can manage decisions appropriately without needing detailed directions.

Required Skills:

  • Research, guide, and execute frontend architecture changes, including but by no means limited to Kotlin on Android.
  • 6+ years of solid experience in mobile application development frameworks (API, testing, deployment, etc.) building a highly responsive mobile App.
  • Experience writing Kotlin Multi Platform code for hardware and other uses outside Android on mobile phones.
  • Build reusable Android components, orchestrate user-interactions integrating with backend services via REST and GraphQL APIs.
  • Experience in Design, Development, Coding, Testing, and Releasing to QA.
  • Experience with monitoring App performance, stability, and success rate and leveraging data to improve the same.
  • Improve code quality through writing unit tests, automation, and performing code reviews.
  • A strong foundation of software design – know-how to create software that’s extensible, reusable, and meets desired architectural objectives.
  • Emphasis on the performance, quality, and responsiveness of the app. Knowledge of memory management and multi-threading. Familiarity with RESTful APIs to connect to back-end services.

Preferred skills:

  • Experience with Splunk, Dynatrace/Monitoring tools, Google Cloud Platform, or Kafka
