What you'll do...

As the Director of Brand Narrative and Strategy for Ad Sales Marketing with Sam’s Club Media Group, You’re seen as approachable, collaborative, and non-political by your stakeholders and peers. You consistently focus on results, even under challenging circumstances and must be an excellent communicator.

As a seasoned leader, you have excellent creative thinking, with Insights driven, with experience writing and develop a narrative for multiple industry categories within Sam’s Club. Directly reporting to the Head of Ad Sales Marketing, the position will define, write, create, and communicate Sam’s Club brand narrative by understanding our foundational strengths and limitations today with an aspirational direction that aligns with our key business workstreams and the way we will operate in the future. Director of Brand Narrative and Strategy leverages internal and external marketing and advertising knowledge to influence stakeholders internally and brands externally to make Sam’s Club Media Group an indispensable part of their marketing to consumers.  The right candidate will be passionate about our member-obsession and customer-first culture. Our business is moving with tremendous speed, and we are growing fast. This leader will need to develop clear brand direction and narratives for each Industry Vertical, understand product-based cultures and customer-first cultures; experience in quickly ideating, writing and challenging briefs for multiple categories of business. The ideal applicant understands HOW to produce and WHAT to produce based on specific cultural competencies and a strong strategic, visionary, storyteller.

What You’ll Do

  • At a high-level, this role will partner with the Head of Ad Sales Marketing, GM of the Sam’s Club advertising business and other senior leadership to write a consistent and concise brand narrative for everyone internally to leverage a single voice and develop external materials that tell the story which sets Sam’s Club apart from other retail media or national content media available for agencies and brands to buy.  
  • Work with the Head of Ad Sales Marketing to identify and support the highest priority workstreams that drive excitement through transformational and compelling internal and external presentations to stakeholders, brands, and agencies of who we are, why they should work with us, and how they should use Sam’s Club Media Group.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams in identifying insights that can be used to build a narrative for industry categories, like Food, Tech, and Health & Wellness, that help grow our business using syndicated and our own first party data.
  • Partner and develop recruiting stories, content posts for social media and networking sites to help us hire and retain the very best talent.
  • You understand the balance between scrappy and rigor and can balance working with urgency and adapt methodological rigor as needed for the situation.
  • You have demonstrated examples of leadership skills that only time can teach improving organizational health, growing and nurturing teams, executing across multiple stakeholders, and setting priorities effectively.
  • Work in partnership with Operations and Sales identifying ways to boost morale and reduce attrition, constantly pushing our culture to be the most dynamic, innovative, and fun place to be at, through initiatives like offsites, team surveys, org design principles, and more.  Our brand should be our culture and represent in everything we do.
  • Support workstreams across the leadership team within Sam’s Club’s advertising organization with consistent formats, flow, and imagery that add confidence to presenters.
  • Evangelize our narrative internally through weekly, monthly and quarterly meetings with high energy and charisma.
  • Own the messaging and positioning for Sam’s Club Media Group and ensure good stewardship of the messaging and positioning through all communication and marketing internally and externally
  • Liaise with Sales, HR, Operations, and many other teams to identify appropriate narratives, and align opportunities quickly.
  • Create and regularly update all presentation templates, marketing materials, website, Sharepoint hub, dashboards in a flow that is easy for all departments within Sam’s Media Group
  • Create External Collateral and partner closely with the Director of Activation for B2B and Industry events
  • Develop an annual content strategy for SMG website that aligns with Sales planning cycles and events.
  • Lead special projects for the business, which will depend on business need, interest, an aptitude

Experience / Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree (MBA preferred)
  • Serves as a culture carrier of our organization, including modeling inclusive behaviors and holding organization leaders accountable for building and leading diverse organizations
  • High traditional and online Marketing acumen.  Ability to navigate and stay true to our overall Member Focused Brand within Marketing, excellent communication [writing] skills
  • 10+ years in combination of management consulting, brand management, project management, and/or other relevant fields
  • Stellar problem-solving skills: demonstrated ability to simplify a message with complex and technical business, develop solutions with little guidance, and craft high quality, analytically sound, detail-oriented outputs
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Ability to work well in a cross-functional, matrix management environment with a highly collaborative, team-oriented approach to problem solving
  • Strong creative/content design acumen, especially related to building compelling and easy to interpret presentations that drive well-informed decision making
  • Must be results-oriented and able to move forward without complete information
  • Ability to succeed in a collaborative, fast paced environment; ability to remain flexible and adjust on the fly to new demands and respond with a sense of urgency
  • Highly organized, ability to coordinate activities of senior leaders to drive alignment and attainment of goals
  • Ability to execute at both the strategic and tactical level, able to roll up his/her sleeves to get things done
  • Calm, patient and can drive others towards a common goal
