The Walmart New Business Development team is a newly created group designed to leverage existing Walmart assets, build new capabilities, and lay the groundwork for a sizeable new business. The organization is currently seeking a Director, New Business Development Compliance to focus on the design, development, strategy, implementation, and maintenance of an compliance program for the New Business Development Team and any newly created businesses.

This role is a critical thought-leadership role that will sit with the business as the compliance lead and main point of contact for the Walmart US Ethics & Compliance team. The role will help to develop strategy and policies, design and implement standards, controls, and monitoring and further enhance training and awareness for our New Business Development Team. Highly visible, the person who fulfills this role will lead with an entrepreneurial mindset and an ability to operationalize strategy and implement risk mitigation solutions with speed at scale.

This team is being stood up now, and you can be a founding member to set the strategy, culture and working norms.  It’s a unique chance to be an intrapreneur—building something new from the ground up, while backed by the strength of Walmart and leveraging the assets of the world’s largest omnichannel retailer.

As an Compliance leader, reporting to the Head of Omnichannel Compliance, you will:

  • Serve as the New Business Development Team compliance lead to drive assortment and services, features, functionality, and customer experience, including best practices and initiatives to mitigate risk and enable business functions;

  • Coordinate with stakeholders, including business leaders, product, engineering, legal, government affairs, corporate affairs and other teams to ensure that compliance processes for various functions address legal and compliance requirements;

  • Lead strategic cross-functional initiatives (including coordination with various subject matter experts in legal and compliance) to ensure regulatory compliance, mitigate risk, and enhance current compliance strategies and processes; and

  • Develop decision-making frameworks, perform and oversee industry and market analysis, and communicate progress and measures of success to senior leadership and key internal stakeholders.

You’ll sweep us off our feet if:

  • You have experience with Mergers and Acquisitions and/or new business development.

  • You have experience implementing legal and compliance controls (including technology) to enforce regulations and other legal requirements.

  • You have experience working with, and knowledge of, eCommerce legal and compliance matters, including experience with US consumer protection, product safety and related laws and regulations.

  • You have experience working with various regulatory agencies such as FTC, EPA, ATF, FCC, etc.

  • You’re a self-starter, that can operate in a complex collaborative corporate structure with multiple stakeholders and a high degree of professional ethics and integrity.

  • You have strong new business development experience, bringing businesses to life, and growing them from launch into the next phases.

  • You have a proven record of success as it relates to translating operational concepts into scalable implementation and working collaboratively and cross-functionally.

  • You’re organized, disciplined, and can manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • You have strong relationship orientation, and an ability to tackle tough challenges and deliver results.

  • You have outstanding communication skills and are a master at making complex subjects easily understood.

  • You have high standards and can hold project contributors accountable.

  • You have  experience in Legal or Regulatory Compliance teams.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Developing vision and strategy for the development of policies, procedures and projects for the New Business Development Team compliance program by benchmarking industry best practices; evaluating and reporting on key performance metrics; and assessing and directing the cross-functional development of policies to ensure organizational alignment across the enterprise.

  • Enabling business functions by driving technology development; leading cross-functional teams to incorporate an eCommerce compliance focus; analyzing complex emerging technology and operational requirements; and evaluating U.S. eCommerce initiatives and best practices prior to release to our customers or associates.

  • Performing applicable compliance risk assessments (including impact, likelihood and ratings) and addressing gaps; monitoring, facilitating, and/or supporting legal, compliance and risk mitigation for audits; and coordinating with legal and other stakeholders to respond to regulatory and other investigations.

  • Cultivating an environment where associates respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics by integrating these values into all programs and practices; developing consequences for violations or non-compliance; and supporting the Open Door Policy.

Minimum qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in legal and/or compliance

  • 2-4 years’ experience working in an eCommerce company or eCommerce environment

  • 2-3 years’ experience working with product and technology teams

  • Strong communication, partnership, and organizational skills
