Director, Specialty Compliance And Ethics - Protein/Frozen - Supplier Food Safety

Position Summary...

What you'll do...

As a Supplier Food Safety Director, you will be responsible for leading the protein-based product and frozen categories strategy development and maintenance. This includes partnership with the sourcing and technical development teams to approve and monitor existing and new suppliers.

You'll sweep us off our feet if...

• Food/Meat Science, Microbiology, Chemical Bachelor's, or related degree

• 15+ years of experience in Protein based products

• Strong knowledge in food safety systems/manufacturing processes. Advanced HACCP knowledge

• Experience building and designing globally harmonized programs across multi-disciplinary businesses, each with unique physical and digital assets

• Experience leading geographically dispersed teams and navigating a large, highly matrixed organization

• Attract, build, manage, and develop a talented, diverse, equitable and inclusive protein based and frozen food safety team

• Represents the company before regulatory agencies, external organizations and Suppliers and serves as a subject matter expert in the development of global corporate positions on food safety matters; articulates corporate positions to regulators and external agencies and directs involvement with regulators to ensure compliance with all legal requirements

• Develops external relationships and alliances strengthening the company's reputation within the different protein and frozen category communities and leads outreach meetings, ensuring that the company's programs, policies, procedures and reports are communicated in a persuasive, accurate and understandable way and that sensitive data is protected

• Develop and communicate Supplier Food Safety Strategic vision to manage risk and protect the brand with science-based approach via the Product Design Hazard Analysis (PDHA) process/desk audit and onsite assessment for Protein (meat, dairy, seafood, and eggs) and frozen categories

• Responsible for implementing Supplier Management Standards for the protein and frozen categories as well as Walmart own manufacturing facilities where applicable. Work closely with the suppliers, manufacturing, and the supply teams. Ensuring supplier verification programs and parameters critical to food safety and associated regulatory compliance are appropriate

• Manage supplier information in internal and external Systems including but not limited to ProSpec, HIVE, FAS integration, Trade automation, Registrar Corp, and Tracegains databases

• Develop strategy, specifications, process and conduct internal, external audits, process validations review and risk assessment for higher risk product suppliers within the protein based and frozen categories

• Supporting the supplier onboarding process, launch of new products, and reformulations by providing technical consultation to internal stakeholders for qualifying new, and existing suppliers within the Protein base and frozen categories

• Primarily associated with microbiological, food safety, the role also needs to be able to be competent in the chemical toxicological hazard categories, including allergens, emerging issues as well as physical hazard control

• Food Safety hazard analysis and inputs into the PDHA processes including but not limited to Food Safety Initiatives

• Determination of the likelihood of a food safety hazard and severity of impact

• Hazard controls suitability

• Oversight of the Food Safety Validation Program, including Challenge study testing

• Microbiological/Chemical testing program oversight:

  • Sampling and in process and finished product test protocols
  • Environmental Monitoring Plans for own manufacturing and suppliers' facilities if associated with CAPAs

• Oversee supplier recalls internally with key stakeholders and externally liaising with Federal and State agencies

• Oversee Food Safety related Complaints, investigations, and corrective actions from both customers, regulatory bodies, and stores

• Reviews, monitors, and measures supplier food safety key performance indicators (KPI) by understanding food safety standards; determining appropriate action steps to ensure compliance as well as proactively predicting potential risks and developing mitigation alternatives

• Facilitates engagement and appropriate communications with cross-functional teams (including Ethics & Compliance, Legal, Internal Audit, and key business stakeholders) to ensure a transparent and comprehensive compliance strategy consistent with business objectives

• Training, education: Provision of content for consistent approach in science-based food safety education efforts
