Senior Data Analyst - Supply Chain Strategy

Position Summary...

What you'll do...

The Merchant Data Science team researches and develops algorithms that power areas like supply chain, pricing, assortment optimization, replenishment, store layout, etc. You will be working closely with data scientists, machine learning engineers, operations research scientists, data engineers and other data analysts within the team as well collaborate with business teams, product managers, corporate strategists, software engineers and analysts.

Our team specifically partners with Omni-channel Supply Chain Strategy team to provide intelligent solutions to make highly visible and strategic decisions for Supply Chain Network transformation at Walmart. The work includes solving problems such as inbound network design, middle mile network flow optimization, various facility location determinations, last mile ecosystem design, pilots and measurements, monetization, transportation problems, return item strategy for ambient as well as fresh networks to provide Walmart a competitive edge in the medium to long term.

The primary responsibility of the data analyst is to provide data support to data scientists and business teams on data acquisition, creation, exploration, processing/manipulation, validation, preparation, presentation, and visualization. More specifically, they will

• Identify the sources for the required data, and develop SQL/Python codes to query, process, transform and manipulate raw data to fit the team's analytical needs. This can be either ad-hoc or automated process. Perform data quality check to identify and address outliers, errors and exceptions.

• Provide data support by leveraging the existing data or creating new data to facilitate the data scientists' needs on developing optimization and machine learning solutions.

• Develop effective data visualization solutions using Tableau or Power BI to understand current-state baseline, basic and advanced statistical insights, historical trends, performance and KIP metrics, scenario comparisons, and benefits/cost analysis. These data visualization solutions will be used to conduct initial analysis, identify improvement opportunities, check data quality, and provide effective illustration in solution presentation and communication.

• Help validate the quality of solutions generated by optimization and ML models.

• Work with engineering stakeholders to help with development of new data and integration with existing data. This would be part of ongoing efforts to scale up our overall Supply Chain Strategy data lake.

• Create ongoing analysis plans to deep-dive into large datasets related to the defined metrics/KPIs, and execute those plans using appropriate tools like Google Analytics, Tableau, Python and/or R.

• Perform data governance tasks such as exploring data structure and features, documenting metadata, answering questions, and providing support to the data users.

• Formulate, execute and report on A/B tests for existing and new features for constant optimization of our strategies.

What we are looking for

• M.S. in a quantitative discipline (Business Analytics, Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, etc.) with a minimum 2 years of relevant work experience

• Profound understanding of data structure and database management, and real-world experience with large-scale databases

• Proficiency in SQL, Python, R and/or other programing languages

• Extensive experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau and MS Power BI

• Experience with cloud platform, ideally GCP or MS Azure

• Ability to communicate your results from deeply technical to non-technical audiences

• Ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional leaders

• Knowledge on supply chain, optimization and machine learning is preferred but not required

Option 2: Master's degree in Business, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field. Option 3: 4 years' experience in data analysis, data science, statistics, or related field.
